Power Shifting into 2nd Gear

Drag strip or street, when I hold the gas to the floor and try to shift gears of a manual 5 speed transmission, it won't go into 2nd gear, 8 times out of 10. It grinds, but won't engage, no matter how hard I pull. It is the stock shifter and transmission. I changed the fluid with Royal Purple not long ago. It improved right away with the 1-2 and 2-3 shift for about 2 weeks. But now after 22 1/4th and 1/8th mile runs, it won't shift consistently at WOT. I have tried slower shifts, leaving in the clutch longer, and pulling hard to the left while pulling down and selecting 2nd.

Any help?

Sounds like your 2nd gear synchro is on it's way out.

i don't know why everyone thinks they can power shift a manual trans everyday and expect a fluid change to fix it when it stops working.

Dude, power shifting is VERY stressful for the tranny and will dramatically shorten its life. Your trans needs a rebuild and will need another one in a short amount of time if you continue to do this.

Changing the fluid isn't going to fix your synchro's.

No, you need a 2nd gear synchro. It's already to late if you can't get into gear at high RPMs.

when you fix your synchro you can add the torque limiters they are good for never missing 3rd gear and gives you an all around solid shifting feel.

I've had my synchros replaced twice, the TR3650 is not the cream of the crop when it comes to high RPM shifting but it can be improved.

Is it possible that I need a K-Member Brace with Engine Torque Limiters...

It will be hard to ignore when he has to perform his own skip shift feature lol.

I have not ignored the posts. I am taking it under advisement. I was looking for a 2nd opinion. My transmission has 37k miles on it, with less than 30 1/4th mile runs on it, less than half of those were powershifted.

I searched for synchro replacement and didn't find much on it. I was hoping it was the either user error or shifter slop, not a synchro. The transmission shifts smoothly at 6k rpms when I lift the gas and in all gears when I am not in too big of a hurry.

Yes, STILL your 2nd gear synchro is going bad.
read TSB 9-19-17.
I have had my synchros replaced by the dealer and there is no more issue.
I'm not making this stuff up.

You're going to get to a point (like I did) where any moderately quick shifting will grind.
It doesn't happen when you shift slow, but when it gets bad enough it will and you will also introduce the rest of your tranny to some lovely metal shavings.

You should have put a top brand short throw shifter on it the day you got the car....that is a huge help in the "tearing up tranny's" department.

my car is doing this with only 5,400 miles on it. but it will go into second. after my mgw install it seems like i can go from 1 to 2 and if i pull the shifter too far over towards me it will not let me go in.

The torque limiters should help I would think but what fdjizm is saying, yeah you will probably need to get a new synchro or a few soon. I have the same problem you have dude. I just started shifting slower, it sucks but i don't want my shit to fuck up. I need a shifter and i wanna get motor mounts+TQ limiters
