Hi guys
Has anyone done the PPRV delete in their fuel hat/system ? If so, has anyone had problems after deleting the pprv ?

I´m currently modding my stock hat and I read that the Cobra guys tend to do this mod. Just wondering if the valve is necessary before I continue with my work on the hat.

Cheers
Kristjan

The pprv valves on the cobras sucked and would fail and cause issues. However they are very useful on our cars and help maintain line/rail pressure and help prevent fuel spikes. It is an absolute must to keep if doing a returnless setup. And even some guys have had issues on return setups without it.

From an older thread:

Basically yes, it is a check valve. However it is special! It will only hold the line pressure at 40psi when pumps are off or cycled. It bleeds back the additional pressure. It also smooths out pump pulses because it it a ball/spring setup with an external "back" pressure relief tube (GT500 pprv only).
I had a high flow Earl's check valve in the system and I had super high 100+ psi (100 is all my gauge reads) during certain key on cycle events. Well, this first pushed my fuel rail right off my injector. Then I re mounted my fuel rails so they held down tighter. Then I blew an injector O ring into 2 pieces and doused my running motor with 1/3 gallon of fuel before I realized what was happening.
I had fairly steady pressure with the Earl's valve but it was DANGEROUS on a returnless system.
Removed that valve and ran no valve. Then you have to crank your motor maybe 2 seconds longer before fuel gets to the rails and my pressure was literally bouncing between 15 and 40 psi. Obviously the car ran rough at idle with this happening.
Re installed the extensively engineered Ford PPRV and life is great! Quick starts, absolutely rock solid pressure readings that are very responsive to your right foot with no bouncing. Motor is happy!:thumb:

Thanks for the quick reply Lightblade.
I guess I will be keeping it as it appears to be critical for a functional returnless system.
I´m going to have to use it outside the fuel tank as my current plumbing won´t able me otherwise. I´m drilling for a extra nozzle on top of the hat and running a Y-pipe on top of the tank. So the pprv will have to come after the Y-pipe on top.

Another question :
The split tank hose (black inside the tank), will it be okay to link that hose to only one pump ?

Yeah I plumbed a y and kept the pprv on the inside of the tank makes it alittle bit of a bitch to get the hat back in but its doable. lol

So your gonna run dual pumps in the hat or single? Got a pic of what your talking about? Its like spaghetti in there on mine lol

I´ve been running dual pumps for some time now with the Paxton plumping spaghetti inside the hat. I just added another FPDM and after putting the hat back in I damaged one of the spaghetti hose inside the tank. Just decided to try to make my life more easier and the hat a bit cleaner since I had to pull it out in the first place, which is a pita with all that plumbing.

No pics at the moment sorry.
The hose I was referring to is the one that leads from the second chamber of the gas tank

Gotcha yeah that hose just plugs in and should be fine on one pump the flow of the pump actually siphons the fuel from the otherside through that line.

Same here i have 2 ford gt pumps on the stock hat, Im going to be redoing my setup here shortly as well. I had one of my ford gt pumps go out and Im going to run thicker wire through the hat to some deatchwerks pumps and replumb it/clean it up. Also going to add a second fpdm as well but still looking for one and a plug pigtail for it.

Here is what we ended up doing with the hat.

Plumbing mostly stripped with only the PPRV valve at the end of the orange hose.

then the final result

Pic of the Y-pipe with the PPRV valve at the end. That one went on top after the nozzles.

Yes it does :) The car started up no problem, drove fine and A/F seemed to be just fine. Haven´t had the chance to go WOT ´cause of the heavy rain here at the moment.
We bought the Y-pipe at some local hardware store here in Iceland, they specialize in hoses and fittings. But to be honest we ended up using the plastic Y-pipe from the Paxton plumbing kit because it had less spread in the Y itself and that gave us more room. I would have preferred to use the steel Y but plastic will have to do for now
