Priming /W front Cover off?

Just wondering. Can you prime the engine so the tensioners will be expanded with the front timing chain cover off? Yees I searched this time lol.. I know I have been lazy today but with due rights.

We prime the 3v engines using the oil pressure sensor hole. You need an external source (hydraulic pump) to supply the oil to the engine.

Yes, just have something there to catch the oil that gets away from you.
