Just coming in to join the party. I'm just curious why filter manufacturers can't use a little thicker of wire with more spacing. Every filter I have been sent or seen new at the store was all bent up. Looks bad. I'm no car show guy but I like my new stuff to look new when I buy it new. I mean the water coming out of the faucet bends them up when I wash it. I always check the 4 inch filters when I'm at the auto parts store for a good one. Haven't found one yet.

My $10 generic airbox filter came out of the box mint.

I know you said you weren't interested in another type of filter but any reason not to try a dry one? I'm running an R2C dry filter and love it. http://www.r2cperformance.com/assets/1/Products/500x500/Mustang Bullitt Filter 020.jpg
Course I don't have a supercharger. Have you thought maybe you're oiling it too much? Just throwing out ideas.

This is what I'm looking for here. Are those pretty sturdy? How thick is that wire mesh stuff?

Just wanted to chime in with the "dry filter" idea as well. I have used both AEM Dryflow and AFE's dry media cone filters. Now, I apologize for this as I can't remember which one has it (I think it's the AFE), but one of them had a plastic "cage" inside the filter to add some strength to the filter body. That might be enough to keep it from collapsing too, I dunno. Just an idea.
