Purge Valve Location on 2.9L Whipple

Where do you put the damn purge valve?

The instructions included are for the 2.3L which includes a throttle body spacer. The purge valve is mounted on this throttle body spacer, but the 2.9L has the Crusher Inlet, so there is no throttle body spacer.

We've been going crazy over here trying to find a spot to mount this.

My guess is you will have to plumb it in behind the TB somewhere and mount it remotely like the early Boss 302 intake adopters did if the blower inlet doesnt have the flange for it.

The inlet doesn't have a flange for it, but I'm pretty sure I've got a good idea for making it work.

I'll try it out on Monday, and we'll see how it turns out.

I wanna hear from anyone that has installed this blower. Lethal Performance and Evo will get phone calls from me first thing on Monday morning.

Here is a comparison pic of both blowers. 2.9L on the left with the 2.3L on the right:

Notice how the inlet to the rear of the 2.3L is in (2) pieces. The piece that mounts directly to the back of the blower would be the inlet, and the part that swings out and attaches to the throttle body is what is referred to as the throttle body spacer. This throttle body spacer is where you attach the Purge Valve to the 2.3L. You can actually see it attached in this picture.

The 2.9L has the Crusher inlet which is one piece. There is no raised area for the purge valve.

Even in this pic, I can't see where they mounted it. I'm thinking it may be tucked down below the brake booster...

We'll see.

Unfortunately I don't have any pics of how I did it. If you have a copy of the Oct 2011 issue of 5.0, page 62 has a pic of one installed on a KB setup. It's essenially a Boss evap solenoid, hung vertically from the nipple on the back of the blower, with the evap line from the fender area modified so it plugs right it.

Sorta, but I used the Boss solenoid instead of the regular 5.0 solenoid. Looks cleaner. Let me see if i can take a halfway decent pic of the pic in the mag and post it here
