So I have just about had it with the car in my sig (07' GT). It's trick, fast and it's nice and all that but it's just too much "Race Car" and not enough daily driver.

GT500's have come way down in price and I'm thinking of picking one up and shooting for a nice, mostly bolt on (minimum of custom parts) 800rwhp daily driver.

But that leaves me with my GT, which at that point would be mostly redundant. I have EVERYTHING I need to put the car back to stock. It would take stripping the car damn near down to the tub and putting it back together with the stock parts, but that's not the end of the world. Of course there are things that will be irreversible (mostly holes and trimmed/ground on bits) but it's a super clean 10K mi chassis with fresh paint.

I've seen where people have put their cars back to stock and sold them/traded them in/etc but have never seen much in the way of details of how that works out.

How much of a hit does the cars value take because of being modded then de-modded in peoples experience?

Was getting a de-modded car sold a problem? Do normal buyers consider them some sort of pariah?

For those of you that have done it do you have any do's and don'ts advice?

Thanks

I've never done this with an s197, but being I've always built and sold mustangs, alot of it is going to come down to the buyer. Some people want it built already others want it stock. If trading with a dealer you're not going to gain a great amount of money for any of the mods. I think that is alot of the reason people strip them down. They regain some of the mod money and still get a stock trade in price. just my thoughts. I'm sure others will chime in.

From my past experience, mods do not add any value (maybe 10% of their value at most), while installed. Where as if you take them off they will be worth 60-75% of their value.

A car that's been modded will always hold a lower value than a bone stock car. Because people know it's been driven and abused (to some extent). Plus people often don't want to get into someones else's issues, so they buy stock.

It all comes down to advertising and finding the right buyer. I've never had problems selling any cars modded/de-modded etc. But you have to be realistic with their value.

I'm certainly not looking to roll over anyone, I will fully disclose that the car was modded, driven hard then de-modded.

In your experience if the car is back to near stock condition what should it fetch compared to the same car but unmolested? 75-80%??

I'm not looking to kill someone on it, but I'm also not looking to give it away.

It's highly unlikely I would trade it in.

Thanks
