They really look good on your car by the way.

Thanks. These tires are also my daily-driving set (at least in the summer), so I also like the fact that they have a treadwear of 300.

Having a treadwear of less than 300 also increases my time multiplier.

I've run Dunlop Star Spec's for road racing as well as Autox. Great tire for both applications of autocross and road racing. I think compared to the RS3, the only big difference I think is.. from the start of using the tire - I think the Dunlop's out match the rs3's. But once you start getting into the treads of the tire and getting down to it, the rs3's are a lot better.

Read that thread about the two tires. Interesting read for sure. Lots of back and forth. Lots of guys running light car's chiming in though. Let us know how the RS3's perform! I'll be in the market for some nice auto-x tires in the spring.

Most of the discussion on this vs. that street tire for autocross isn't coming from people driving 3600 pound, RWD, 400+ hp cars. Take it with a giant grain of salt.

Looking at last years National results, I cannot find a single V8, RWD competitor in a street tire class.

Quite a few of those guys are driving 300+HP, 3200lb M3's and one of the contributors in that thread is a writer for Grassroots Motorsports. All you have to do is go to http://sololive.scca.com and to see the results of every National Tour and ProSolo this year to look at what everybody is running in STX and STU. I would say that most of the opinions expressed in that thread on the other site were pretty spot on. Honestly I was leaning towards the Dunlop StarSpecs until I found that deal on the RS3's. Finding the RS3's for $400 less was a contributing factor to my purchase.

I was there... I'll be there on the 7th and 14th too. Driving the Corvette on the 7th and my 5.0 on the 14th. Come introduce yourself.

My recommendation would be to do one of two things. Run STX where you intake is legal and you can run the hot street tires. Or take the intake off and we can put you on R-comps and run F-stock. You could run ESP, but that would be worse case scenario for you. Car isn't prepped for it, and you need big R-comps too.

I'd also recommend a rulebook so you know what you can and cannot do in what classes.

As for the '66 being fast. It's not, not even close. Mike Snyder, who is my long time co-driver was running his Shelby. I think he ran 58.8. For perspective I'm usually 1.5-2 seconds faster than Mike in the same car. And stood on a mid 55 in the Corvette, but coned (which count) 3 mid-54's in the car. Based on that I'd have been in the 57 area in the Shelby. :)
