question for tuners on torque converter

do i have to retune the car again if i add a 3k stall converter or can i drive around without a tune for it.
the car was dynotune for the rest of my mods a couple of months ago by the way.

I just got my car tuned for my TC..Yes you can drive around without a tune for it. I drove mine from my buddy's shop who installed it, to my other buddy's shop 45 miles away for a tune. I am not a tuner, so my advice is just my personal experience, but I wouldnt horse around without a good tranny tune for the new converter..

I just went with a 2600 stall PI TC last week. I installed an email tune for the new TC prior to taking it to the shop. With the new TC tune, the trans just didn't feel right with the stock TC on the 5 mile drive to the shop. After the new TC was installed I could really feel how the tune was matched to the TC.

Also, I had the car dyno tuned yesterday. The tuner was doing a pull with the email tune to see how it ran, but had to back off because the new TC was causing the car to run way too lean when it flashed and it had to be corrected. I really think there comes a point where a mod requires a dyno tune. In my experience the TC was such a mod.

Agreed, my car didn't feel "right" until I had the tune adjusted for the TC

A tune is not required, but you'll probably want to adjust the shift points at the very least.

A tune isn't required with a bigger stall converter, but having the lock-up points set sooner will really wake up how strong the car pulls - especially at the far end of the dragstrip.
