Race style guys with "built" 8.8 or 9" rear end

Those of you who have had serious work done to an 8.8 or have switched to a 9" rear end......do you have the ABS rings on the axles or not? What are the consequences of not having them while you still have the ABS system hooked up? Dash light? Does it affect the braking at all?

All I noticed was the dash light, and the fact that the ABS does not work anymore. At Barona I actually locked up the fronts for a short moment

If you run without the rings, the ABS light will illuminate. When the ABS light is on, the ABS is disabled. Braking will feel just as normal until you lock them up, no more ABS.

Hmm, so you rear end doesn't have the ABS rings on it Paul? Now I'm wondering if I can put the ABS rings from my current rear end onto your old one.

When i went to the 9" Currie,there axles came with the rings.Moser's do not have the rings & the light was on all the time.If the light is on the ABS won't work at all.You just hope the fronts evenly brake,if you lockem up.I have a spool so the rears don't matter.Get the rings if you can,just one less thing to distract you.

What Paul said, but greg was able to turn off the abs light somehow in the tune - I'll ask him about it. (yes - before the BS3 of course)

I figured the light could be turned off. No biggie. Think I'm going to get the rear end deal this weekend. DTS built 8.8 with a spool, 3.90 cryo-treated gears, 33 spline Strange Axles, C-clip eliminators, girdle cover. Still strapped to the pallet that DTS delivered it on for $1200.

Stock length or narrowed?

The guy that's selling it is kind of a dipshit. He claims it is narrowed so I had him check the width. He said it was 64.5" from wheel flange to wheel flange. Doesn't sound too narrowed to me.

I've talked to DTS before and I like their stuff. However, I found another setup this evening that I went ahead and bought. NMRA Factory Stock guy had it in a new car that he never got to finish. Strange-built 8.8, 33 spline spool and axles, 9" housing ends, girdle cover, 4.30 gear, and Strange Engineering brakes. All for $1100. The brakes alone are $575. Brand new and never run. Just have to swap gears out and I'm good to go.

Anybody need a 4.30 gear?

Yeah so this deal didn't quite work out as planned. Sent the guy a cashier's check (he didn't want to do paypal) yesterday by UPS Overnight and at 4:31 am this morning I get a PM stating he sold it out from under me to............
