I'm getting ready to take out the stock 3.55s and don't know if I should go with 4.10s or 3.73s. What would you do and why? Thanks

Not tech but, are you std or auto trans? What is your RWHP level?

Domo, next time you make a post, please ask yourself if it REALLY goes in the tech section....

seems you default to the tech section, and dont think any of them have been tech for this site. Please default to chit chat until further notice

Moving to chit chat.

Use search function.

And remember--to get a quality answer you need to give information about your setup. We don't have crystal balls.

Std and I'm pushing about 340rwhp
At 340 rw you want at much gear as you can get I would go with at least 4:10. Rule is 4:10 STD and 3:73 AUTO after 500 RWHP.IMO I would do 4:56 unless you plan to up the power soon. Are you worried about fuel millage or just want to go fast? I did 4:10s in my sons N/A car but it will get a built motor this year and boost by the end of this year. N/A, you want as much gear as your fuel budget allows.

according to his intro post 340 seems a bit generous, only power mod's were intake and throttle body. Unless theres something we dont know about

Then he wants 4:30 to 4:56 gears at a min. Less power with more gear equals more torque. Its all about what you want from the car. Do you need fuel mileage or not? If not more gear goes faster.

Even though this car is my daily Idc about fuel mileage I however plan on doing the 302 stroker kit this year and boost next year

I was pulling the tires off in first gear pulls NA with 4.10s. Barely, but still. Supercharged there was no use in my first two gears. 3.55s were muuuuch better.

Now if you're drag racing with good tires, that's a different matter.

Well that changes everything. Why don't you give us a complete picture of what your future plans are and then, maybe, some of us can give you helpful info. Right now we are all just shooting in the dark.

Boost? How much? Do you plan on drag racing? What tire will you be using? Or just street driven? What are your rwhp goals? Are you running the 5R55s or the 3650? etc, etc, etc,.

Go look at the ET spreadsheets and see the combos everyone is doing.

Me personally, I had great success running a 4.10 rear gear + a 28 tall M&H drag radial on the street a few years ago. 10.1Xs @ 134 mph at the track. That was with a 4R70W though with a 2.84 first gear, however.

With a 3650, your first gear ratio would be a 3.38, so keep that in mind.

Also (my opinion), if you plan on racing on a street tire vs a drag radial, 4.10s with 550rwhp with a whipple/KB would be a waste of time. However maybe not with a centri. Just depends on your setup.

550rwhp, I would keep the 3.55s with a 28" QTP and launch the ever loving shit out of it. I was clutch dumping at 6k rpm and dead hooking to 1.5 60' times. That was with a 4.10 gear but 450ish rwhp. The added power would negate the gear difference I think.
