Rod knock or lifters?

I bought this 2005 mustang gt last summer with 130k miles it has now 158k miles and just last year it was making this noise (video attached), I went to two mechanics one I left it in the shop since he said it was lifters/timing and then I found out he didn't work on it and the other mechanic said Imma need a new engine soon but before I make that decision of getting a new engine I need to know if it's a lifter tick or my car is on borrowed time.

That definitely isn't Uncle Rodney knocking on the door!
Sounds much more like a seized cam follower but a phaser knock does sound similar. Either way, pull the valve cover on the side where you can hear the ticking and inspect the valvetrain.

That does not sound like a rod. Almost like a piston but I’d bet on a cam follower chewing up a cam lobe.

Sounds like phaser flop to me. A seized roller is much more of a metallic tick.

But I would pull the valve cover on that side and inspect.

Either way, not a big issue if caught and repaired early

i definitely hear a bad roller follower ..
it also has that "thump" that a bad phaser has as well .

my bet is all in on a bad roller follower and bad phasers cuz age and or the metal contaminates..

either way the op should have just pulled the valve cover ,, than asked questions

I don't know that I hear the roller in the OP's clip, but I'm going off of what mine sounded like which was really bad. The clicking I'm hearing almost sounds like injectors to me, at least until the very last couple seconds of the video.

This what mine was doing back when the siezed roller was eating the cam.

OP, like everyone's saying definitely pull that cover and take a look. You don't want to leave that unaddressed.

I took it to a shop since the last mechanic said it was the timing chain and lifter so I bought the full set with the melling oil pump (there was heavy consumption of oil and leakage) with stock cams, I told the guys in the shop to check the pistons as well but I won't get the car back till maybe around Tuesday or Wednesday. I will keep y'all updated once I get the car back

I guess that if there's an issue with the lash adjusters or roller followers, it would be clearly audible using a mechanic's stethoscope placed on the valve covers, right?

I'm asking because I'm starting to get a little paranoid myself. My car has a distinct ticking sound coming from the left side, especially when in the 1500-1600 RPM range, but when I place the stethoscope on the valve covers, I don't hear anything unusual.

However, when I place it on the injectors, I can hear one of them (on the left) making significantly more noise than the others...

*update* Just got it fixed I decided to replace the oil pump, lifters,and timing chain all together the sound is gone now
