I'm confused as to why having an auto is an issue (or even part of the question).

There are so many different kinds of blowers, roots, twin screws, centri etc....some build power down low, some up high. I do not know which is what. Most guys with blowers have manual trans. How well does the 5r55 hold up with boost?

Its all in the tune. I would suggest a dyno tune or JDM engineering tune for the 5r55s.

My belief is that a centrifugal blower is easier on the drivetrain since it doesn't build much boost down low and builds linearly as rpm's increase. This makes it much easier to launch, as well.

Twin screw and roots blowers make tons of boost down low and are more prone to shock the driveline and blaze the tires.

My car launches very easy with zero tire spin (BFG D/R's) and the Vortech V2 blower (centrifugal) works great at making power once the car is moving. And that's with 100% stock suspension. Click here to watch a video of my car at Bremerton Raceway last Friday and notice how drama-free it takes off, while running a 12.04 in the 1/4 mile on a 1.73 sixty foot.

I am sure you have heard these are on sale and for $3500 I am thinking about it. What are your thoughts with this kit? What about with an auto trans? I had no plans to go FI but this deal has me thinking. My buddies and I did my cam install, is this kit install friendly over a weekend or no? Pros cons anybody.

As long as you do not want to go above the stock block limits I think you'll be very happy with a roots type supercharger ( as it won’t produce much more then 450rwhp ). They’re pretty easy to install ( not a lot of plumbing like a centri or turbo ). I think with a friends help you'll be able to install it in a day’s time, If a few beers are shared ( like they should ) then maybe two tops.

Auto trans life will be dependent on the way you drive it... if you beat the hell out of it all the time, your auto will not last very long regardless the way the power is delivered.

my best friend just had this installed on his Bullitt, he loves it. You do have to send the PCM to Roush for calibration, but it's part of the price. A guy in our club has a Roush with this blower and has an auto. It's a great price, I'd jump on it.

I have d rocker cams, roush is prolly just giving out canned roush tunes for their chargers. Not an ideal situation. No dyno tune available on my island, prolly cant go this route.

Pull the trigger, I just did!! Or you will hate yourself later. But like what was already stated maxed out around 450rwhp. That is fine for me

do you HAVE to send the pcm out to roush? i wouldnt want a roush tune...

HAVE TO ? Dunno bout that. I'd guess a good tuner could do it, but why ? It's part of the package you pay for w/the s/c. You could always take it to your tuner afterwards. My bud sent his off on a Monday and it was back at the dealership by Friday. Pretty sure for the warranty you'd have to have Roush flash the PCM.

Off on a Monday and back on a Friday?? They state, next day there, they receive & flash, and next day back. Wonder what the hold up was??

but the basic roots type, even though it has different names now, TVS, twin screw, displacement, etc, etc are basically the same design, An air pump sits on top of the engine and forces air with 2 rotored shafts into the engine. Much the same as when the pump was invented many years ago to pump air into mineshafts (no shit). More rotor blades, more twist in the blades are the only differences and therefore different names.

A centri is basically a belt driven turbo, and a turbo is, well you know how they work.

The roots type is better for low end torque and hp lower in the rpm range because of how they work. They also are less efficient as rpms climb. Centri's will give more top end hp just like a turbo. For 281 cu in, a roots type is better IMHO.

I have no idea, he had it installed at a Ford dealer. He dropped it Sunday night and couldn't pick it up til the next Saturday so maybe the dealership took their time sending it ?

meh if i had 3500 i'd rather get a single turbo set up. the roush m90 is a pretty weak blower meant for v6's. but if you're looking for a little more power for a cheapish price and dont plan on ever really making anything more then it's not a bad deal.

that's why they're on sale all over. But dollar for dollar, for a street car, for most people it's a helluva unit. Comes with everything needed and makes decent power. Hell 10 years ago 300 hp was the king. Now if a performance car doesn't have 400 it's weak shit, haha. But this is a great time to be a car guy. The choices are incredible and it's pretty easy to make 400 hp if you don't want to buy new.
