Anyone had their S197 chassis certified? Just wondering what you had to do and ballpark on cost.
I had my chassis certified at the cage shop when it was installed. I did this by design, as the shop that did the work knew that the whole intent of the car is to race it, and if for some reason the cage didn't pass, they would need to fix it and get it certified before my car left the shop.
It was $150 for the cert, if I remember correctly, a little more because the guy that did the certs had to drive out to the shop to look the cage over.
Are you going after a 8.50 to 9.99 cert?
As far as the Chassis, you don't need to do anything else other then:
The cage needs the proper net mounts, on the inside of the cage tubing (not the outside). You will need a net, and SFI padding also to pass tech, but not to get the cert.
Then of course you need your clothing upgraded to 3.2a/5, 3.3/1 gloves and neck collar, and you need SFI rated bellhousing, trans case, or trans blanket. If firewall is still stock, you don't need shoes. Belt requirements are the same to what you are used to already (5-point, less then 2 years old).
What trans do you have? 5R55S or 4R70W? Also--that is the rule book, but it really comes down to the track and how they enforce the rules. I haven't had any techs yet go under the car to verify my ATI supercase for my PG trans, or my ATI sfi rated flexplate. Its all legal, but I have yet to see a tech guy actually, physically check it. They ask about it and check it off on the tech card.
What are your plans for the car now?
