Dave, just the key on works, dont need the engine running.

There are two kind of X3s, your serial number starts with X3 or XP?

Lito

Thanks.

I have the older X3.........

I'm pretty sure it's a drivers issues at this point.

I just went out to try to data log, and even though it worked yesterday I couldn't get it to work today.

I ended up having to start the device updater software, plug the x3 into the computer, and let it do some updates. Then I could get it to communicate.

yea on my 7.1 laptop occasionally it doesnt play well with the sct, had to unplug, close software, re-plug and open back up a time or two to get it to work right

My device is not configured for the PIDs needed and SCT doesn't support it to a firmware that I can update the configure file for. At least that I could figure out.

The cofig file I got has 18 PIDs but I think 8-10 were more important, we are trying to diagnose a TB issue, TPS voltage or mechanical with the servo spring.

Ok, so you have a config file already which I guess is for 6.5, correct?

and probably have a drive issue, have tried installing the device updater, it will install the correct drivers for old SCTs, the 6.5 will usually fail.

It seems it is for the GenII - as it loaded in Gen II but not 6.5

I did not install the device updater on the laptop, I didn't see any need for it, I have it on the desktop and it the X3 is up to date.

Are you suggesting if I put the Updater on the laptop that the driver issue could be resolved?

What extension does it has, .CF3 or .CF4?

Yes, try installing the updater so it install the drivers.

Ok, so its for GenII and AFAIK (sincerely, I haven't tested but will) GenII won't work with older devices (X2 and 1st gen X3), at least before 2.5.2, will test today though and get back to you.

yea, that's what I thought as well that Gen II will not work with the older X3s, and Lund seemed to confirm that.

I thought the Gen II might work, I guess I got confused with all the topics I read trying to get the communications to work

So I guess I need a .cf3 for LL 6.5 to have the right config, need the drivers to work on Win 8.1 and then maybe I can data log... LOL

or maybe I can find someone with a working laptop to do it for me, probably only need 5 min of logging.

Lito - thank you very much for your guidance.

Lito will get you going. I had the same issue except my SCT is the XP. And just so you know Gen II doesn't work 100% with the older SCT tuners(I am also running Win 8.1). It will datalog and appear to be working correctly but the numbers are off. I had SCT log in remotely to update my device and to try and get the Gen II to work with no success. I simply used the 6.5 version and that worked very well. But I will tell you that there were slight differences between logging with the SCT tuner alone vs with the SCT tuner and 6.5 also. Regardless just follow Lito's advice.

I'm using 2.2.14.0 on win 7. I tried a later version and I didn't work so I re loaded this version and it worked with my X3

Well working from home today, so I was able to get SCT on the phone and they remoted in and updated the laptop so it now recognizes the X3.

Question - will a .cf4 file work on a X3 in LL 6.5?
