I have a 2013 stage 1 whipple mustang that I bought without the sct x4 tuner, previous owner didn't have it. I bought everything from whipple to upgrade to stage 2 including a sct x4 device but it won't read the strategy code and shows error 11020 when I try to program the car and won't connect. Anyone ever run into this? Whipple is saying I may have to have ford reset my car to stock before flashing or I have to send my pcm to whipple to be reset.

The device probably needs updated to the current firmware. Most devices need updated when purchased.

SCT is very sensitive to battery voltage seen at the PCM. Put it on a charger...let it charge and make sure it's reading at least 12V. As mentioned above, make sure you update the device, drivers etc. Doesn't matter if you did it yesterday, update again.

Communications error, generally caused by low voltage.

Always use a battery charger when tuning with a handheld. If not you run the risk of “bricking” the computer.
