Ok so I called a local shop to see about getting some work done.
1. Kook LTH's
2. New local Manufacture's CAI (supposedly tested better than big names)
3. FRPP Hot rod cams
4. x pipe
5. tune
all of this installed

The price for all of this was $4300.00
My question is, is this a good price or is it steep?
He's telling me to get it all done at once so that I only have to pay for a tune once.
This is a shop that was recomended by another board member and has a good reputation from what Ive read.
What do you guys think?

holy shit thats crazy!! I hope thats with all the parts included. I wouldn"t pay that much for just install, shit you could get a supercharger and do it yourself for a little more.

do as much off the work as you can to bring the price down

I would say that is a bit high, but it all depends on the area you live in to.

Im in N. IL. It seemed high to me too. I priced out the parts and it seems like theres a lot of install charge in there. He didnt send me the quote so I have to go on what I can add up from the parts on line.
If anyone in my area knows where I can get a better deal and get my performance upgrades started, I would appreciate it if you let me know.
Thanks

parts add up to about $2750.
Header install around here is about $600 cams install around $400 to $600 Xpipe install should be about $50. What kind of tune ?dyno? or canned? Do you get a SCT or other flasher with it? An SCT tuner cost about $300 so if you add all that up you are close to your number.
Vortech kit from Brenspeed installed about $4,500. 400 to the wheels at least.

I cant really speak for the rest but you can get a CAI from someone here used for 100$ and install it yourself in just a couple seconds. Used tuners go for 150$ and canned tune for 40$. Get 30 HP for no time and less than 300$.

dude get a blower like everyone says. Lots more hp and around the same price without giving up reliability.

Kooks LTs, save money and buy Macs. Same thing, half the price.
CAI, buy here for like 100 bucks
hot rods buy them whereever else(im pretty sure he put his shop mark up on your quote)
x pipe you can get anywhere for cheap
the tune go with him and this should not cost no more than 500 dollars.

the shop that does all my work installed my LTs for 250, quoted me 300 for cams if i wanted, and installed my supercharger for 250!! I guess my prices are an exception. :)

I wish I had $4k to throw at my car. Then I could strap that +4 BLOWER to my car and call it a day.

Check out my used build thread http://www.s197forum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=37007

I should see near 450 rwhp for less than 4500$ including towing and rental car

I already have a CAI and tuner than I paid 250$ on the forum here. And with the exception of the blower and 30$ belt EVERY part was purchased from this forum.

What's the 'locally built CAI' that apparently slipped under the radar and beat out 'the big name brands'? Maybe that accounts for the extra couple of grand.

With the exception of the cams. All the rest can be performed with basic hand tools and a floor jack.Shoot! Install the parts yourself and shop around for somebody to do the cams if you don't feel comfortable reading up and installing those. They do require special tools which you can rent.

I'd def. go somewhere else should be no more then 1,200 install. If you were really going to spend that I'd get the vortech from brendspeed for 3,900.
