Short Blockectomy has started

is there any trick to getting the block and trans to line up with the dowels? Seems i can sort of get the dowels in but if i lower the motor they pop back out. Should i be starting the bolts once i manage to get the dowels lined up to pull the motor and bellhousing together?

You should have pulled the transmission with the motor. It would have made it a lot easier. It is not recommended to use bolts to pull the transmission to the block. I would just use the bolts to hold it from coming off the dowels & get it to come together by hand.

the r4eason why i am having so much fucking trouble is there is a pilot bushing in the motor. DOH. not supposed to be there with an automatic. thats why nothing will align properly. Any tricks to gettign this motherfucking thing out?

Well with the pilot bearing removed, the engine literally dropped into place, the converter spins, dowels lined up, motor mounts lined up and i got the power steering reconnected and 5 engine/transmission bolts in. id say by mid week she might run again

you cant grind them off lol then you have nothing aligning the block and trans. My problem was the pilot bushing being there when it shouldn't have been

awesome..just getting caught up on this one,lol. i was going to add, i pulled mine and dropped it back in by myself, it lines up pretty easy and goes together pretty easy,i just used a jack to raise the front of the tranny up so it would be a slight angle........but,i guess you already know all this.

btw...i would never pull tranny and motor together....way too much work,lol.

i pulled mine out together and it was no problem at all... imho its easier than leaving the trans in... i have a manual but ive done both trans types both ways

IMO it is way easier to leave the trans in when its an auto, but take it our for a manual.

for me it would be more a sense of frustration and aggravation. my sense of accoplishment comes from the "000s" on my income.
