As long as the body isn't rusted, what difference does it make how old it is or how many miles it has? Anything that breaks just gets rebuilt bigger, better and stronger. That's the whole purpose of this forum. Or for the sicker among us, we remove perfectly good parts to put on other ones that give us a headache.

It just depends on how you drive it, what your mods are, and such.

Completely stock and driven normally I would think an 05 could do 200K miles with little problem. Just a couple alternators, a few spark plugs, a belt, perhaps a cam phasor. Now if you have aftermarket cams, then all bets are off with the valve train.

I think the 100k mile fear is because American brands built some truly shitty cars in the 80s and 90s that would rarely last to 100k miles. Because of that, I think people figure that any car near or above 100k is a ticking time bomb. Obviously that's not the case anymore, but the stigma remains.

That being said, if God forbid something happened to my Mustang, I wouldn't hesitate to get a $1k beater while I find a good 05-09 Mustang in need of a rebuilt motor for $7k-ish and drop a $7k stroker in there and have a $14k S197 ready for bewst.

Although in all reality, I'd probably take my insurance check to Ford and get a Coyote...

Agreed. Also, look at the change your oil every 3k miles mentality... Change my oil in my mustang/truck every 8k-10k...

We can think what we want and have our own opinions but if banks won't give loans on cars over 10 years/100k miles that drastically reduces the buying audience.

I was told by the shop owner that supplied and installed my vortech kit that he had one client with 100k miles on the stock 3 valve with the sc kit on it. I think a safe tune goes a long way. Enjoy it imo

Price can also vary alot depending on location, and also if its private party or dealer. 05-07's seem to go for $14-17k here depending on miles, etc.

I picked up my 05 premium with a ton of suspension mods and 20k miles for $12k, which was a really good deal for me.

I agree with this. I hear about all these deals down South. Prices seem a bit higher here in the Northeast. I think color has a factor on price too. Not to knock Windveil Blue or Legend Lime, but they're harder to sell.

Back to the original question, I also have an '05 GT w/ 67K on it. I'd LOVE a 5.0 or 5.4 under the hood, but I bought it used and still have modest payments. As a toy and not my daily driver, I'm content doing my mods for now. My vote? If you're happy with the car, keep it unless you find a deal on your dream car!
