Thanks, Josh. Been kind of slow the last week or so because of my lung infection but my carpenter buddy is coming over again tomorrow. The plan is to hang the front door (frame needs trimming), install the kitchen countertops, extend the soffit for the upper cabinets and finish hanging the cabinets. He has the table saw setup for cutting the counter tops as well as a track saw. I'll post up more pics tomorrow night.

Just got an email back from the property appraiser's office. They reduced my assessed value from $168K to $139K based on the written evaluation my Realtor did for me back in February. Saved me about $500 on my property taxes this year.

Conrad and I spent the day working on the kitchen cabinets today. Got all but one cabinet in, just need to finish mudding out the drywall on the soffit extension. Counter tops are all cut. Waiting on the corner seam to dry before securing it in place, then we just need to glue on the end cap trim pieces. I picked up a black composite sink instead of a standard stainless steel sink. Getting closer.

Sorry for the late response but the trick is too hot with heavy sandpaper and trowel it over with plaster I did once successfully belt sand it down so maybe that will work

I am so pissed at myself. Every god damned thing I touch in my kitchen, I fuck it up. I can't drill the holes for the cabinet handles in the right spot. I can't file off the Formica countertop end caps without fucking up the countertops. I can't install the sink without cracking it. I can't hook up the drains because the drain line is directly in line with the sink drain and there's no way to lay out the P trap.

I fucking quit. I've managed 3 months without a functional kitchen so a few more won't hurt. I need to walk away for a while and come back when I can afford to replace all the shit I just bought and fucked up.

Get yourself a template for the cabinet handles.
I installed 42 handles with no problems.
This template worked awesome, even with the handles we used, which had holes 5" apart

As far as the sink, if you have to replace the one you have, you could get one with an offset drain, or have the p-trap drain horizontal for a few inches then add an elbow and have it connect to the drain pipe coming out of the floor. Maybe have it twist around the p-trap.

Lowe's sells a template for the handles as well. I saw it yesterday, just can't remember where. Or maybe it was Home Depot. If it was Home Depot it may have been near where the house numbers and kick panels for doors were. It was yellow, though. Hang in there, man! You've done a lot on a short time. A break won't kill you.

The cabinet door and cabinet drawer plastic template is a life saver. I usually do 1 complete gut rehab a month and these templates work great. I'm not sure what happened with counter top but I'm sure it is fixable. Do you have a single bowl sink or a double bowl? Aside from a cracked sink it sounds as though most of it is fixable.

I made my own template. I just need to fill in the two holes I measured wrong. On the counter top I will need to buy another piece and then have Conrad do the end caps since I obviously cannot do them correctly. The sink is chipped, not cracked where I had to knock out the hole for the soap dispenser. I will end up living with that and thinking about how I screwed it up every time I look at the sink.

Thank you, I pretty much figured that out the hard way. Nothing in the directions mentions a router, it just says to file off the excess. I assume my buddy Conrad has a router so I'll ask him if he can bring it when he comes to install the front door.

No, I didn't mean it that way. I really do appreciate your suggestion, it merely confirms what I was thinking as I was fighting with the file and then the sanding disc on the 4.5" grinder. I just wish I had more experience and/or a broader knowledge base with this carpentry stuff. I tend to assume I know more than I do simply because I run a chainsaw for a living and have worked with wood for 30 years. But a carpenter I'm not.
