Started the project this morning. Smoking my tail lights with the VHT Nightshades tint! Hope I don't get a ticket with this mod. LOL!

Prep seems to be the key to a smooth surface. Gonna wet-sand with 1000 grit between layers.

Wish me luck!:thumb:

Pics to follow!

its only a fix it ticket, i got one for my tail light covers. but with the covers i just took them off and got them easily signed off vs having to have a spare set of untinted tails.

Nice, you can do this with the headlights and fogs too right?

Headlights, IMO would be too dangerous. When I was a truckin low-rider back in the day, lol, I tinted my front headlights and it was hella dangerous at night, even with my bright lights on. I "may" do my fogs though.

I want to do his to my turn signal/marker lights but always worry that I will screw them up. Also want to do my fogs. Looking forward to seeing the fininshed product Darren.

I have looked at some of the write ups before, do you only use the 1000 grit sandpaper or is there more to it than that?

I'm kinda going off of two write-ups and improvising from both...LOL!!

Here and Here are the tutorials.

The freakin sanding, painting, and waiting between coats are what takes all day. Not a bad project at all.

I'll post pics when I'm done. Coat #6 is drying....LOL!!!:thumb::thumb:

See I've been thinking of doing the same to all my lights including headlights and fogs, but I only want them lightly smoked so prob do one to two coats....

Looking forward to seeing your end results!

First layer of clear and I haven't even buffed them out yet. Will buff them with 2000 grit and polishing compound tomorrow. Letting the 2nd coat of clear cure overnight.

Whatchall think? This is at least 6 coats of VHT and 2 coats of clear with wetsanding between each coat.

I would spray at least 2 more coats of clear. Last thing you want is to wetsand through it...

Definitely. And I see he did this in above pictures.

I used some House of Kolor clear I had sitting around on mine. I've had them tinted with VHT Niteshades for almost 3 years now and they look just as good today as they did when I first sprayed them. :thumb:
