Here's a pic of mine that were done with thinned down automotive paint and the clearcoated. The beauty of these is you take care of them just like any other painted surface on the car. As for headlights, my painter split the buckets and painted the insert bodycolor and the glued them back together.

Those look great! The light tinting with a hint of the RED lense underneath the painted tint looks very nice on your RED car.:beerchug2:

I'm gonna leave mine as dark as I can get away with to match my tinted windows.

Hey Darren those are looking good. I did mine with the same stuff about a year ago and they faded back to almost stock. I put it on the same way you are and used 3 or 4 coats of clear. I'm thinking of having them painted over the winter.

Thanks! I completely forgot about these. Might as well do them too since I have the paint!:thanks1::highfive:

In all reality, I can lighten my lenses up from being so dark by just sanding them down a bit more and re-clearing them.

The determining factor to how dark they stay is determined by how much VHT I leave on, or take off.:boobies:

and Jeff your car looked AWESOME with your tails painted dark! You should have left them on!:nk::lol2:

Thanks for the replies and input from all!
Eh, I just didn't like it on my dark colored car. There is no break up if you know what I mean? Plus the glossy rear tails looked way out of place with my flat black tail decal IMO...

They look great on your car though!

Yeah, I didn't want extreme dark just in case of being harrassed by the local law.

Thanks for all the kind words and replies, input, and pics. Here are some of the finished tail lights. As you can see in the pics, the 3rd brake light and rear bumper side markers are off the car getting the same dark treatment. LOL!

Here are some hi-res pics:

Fuckin sexy!

Thanks LnL!:beerchug2:

Incredible job Ultra!

Again, thanks bro!:hi:

looks badass but damn they are dark!

:naughty1::evil:

Hey Ultra, you do all this with just one can of VHT?

Yup, and I put this stuff on THICK!

Overall, a tedious project and if somebody drove their car everyday, this is not a project that can be rushed nor finished in one day IMO.

I'm glad I did it and I personally like the contrast it brings to my Tungsten Gray chariot!

That looks good, and you've put a lot of hard work into them. But it's not for me. That's way to dark. I could just see myself getting rear ended (again) and the insurance company not covering me since my brake lights were altered/tinted. Not saying that it doesn't look good, but I'm sure there would be enough of a safety margin, and the fact that the lights are illegal, for the insurance company to make a case in court.

Don't get my wrong, I think it looks great and I'd love to do it, just think it's not worth the risk of losing my car if it gets rear ended (again) and totaled by some jack ass and not getting covered. Maybe some lawyer smart people could come in and make a coment.

I'll be doing this some time this week. Not going as dark as yours Ultra, but probably two to three layers for me. Thanks for posting this and showing how easy it is. It will be time consuming though.

For anyone thats doing the VHT that wants a more subtle tint I highly recommend 2 coats max. Mine pictured above are with 3 coats and they were still pretty dark. In sunlight mine still had a red tint to them, but still a touch too dark for my tastes.
