If you think it might be a problem later, best thing is to replace it with the correct one before buttoning up the transmission and installing it in the car. It's a $5 part and not worth the headache of having to do alot of work twice. Most if not all of the lock rings inside the 3650 are one time use anyway. You always bend them a little bit when trying to get the original off.

Contact Stan at this website and he will hook you up with the correct snap rings you need.

The most critical lock ring is the one on the main shaft that retains the smaller fifth gear. Any stretch, or failure on that one releases that gear to slide down the shaft. That action then proceeds to destroy the drive teeth on both fifth gears. For some reason those rings actually like to fracture...

The correct part is Tremec P/N: 1386-139-001

This lock ring is also used in multiple places on the T-45 and T-56.
It appears once in the TR3650 to retain the small driven fifth gear on the output shaft as discussed.

It also comes in the TR3650 "Small Parts Kit" $$$ from Tremec or from Ford.
