I am well aware that there are people running much more power, much faster with the 8.8 - But, bottom line, it was bent - so if I did it once with this car, I was going to do it again... What's more I am only going to add more power and the math comes down to:

1. 31 spline setups are typically good to 700ft-lbs. I am now planning on more than that...

2. for 8.8 there is a 33 spline TT in the works, but:
a. I just broke a TT - not too keen on that experiment
b. 35 is more than 33
c. otherwise you have to go with a spool in the 8.8.

3. my plan all along was to brace the 8.8 and if ever it broke, well the cost of replacing all its peices would bring other options on to the table...

That day came (painfully soon), but the 2nd half of the logic remains sound (its just the first half that is now in question).

So, do you think this will fit in my axle housing? Looks a little funny shaped:beerdrink:

:hungry: Still waiting on some other parts for the completion of "driveline plan B"...

Yea it is a little funny looking if you plan to try and put 8.8 axles on it. I think it would do better going into a 9" housing. What gears did you get and is that a D Locker? I don't think your going to brake that thing. :poke:

Is that a alum housing?

I'm actually supprised more haven't gone to 9" housing. I know cost is a factor but they are almost industructable.

Just call Strange, Moser or any other and go for a 9" setup, and then don't worry about it anymore.

3.75 and yes that is a Detriot Locker. Iron housing - car too heavy for Al. No, I don't think I am going to break this one... It should do juuust fine...

This is a moser - they offered to help solve my bent axle/studs/diff problem and I could not refuse...

BTW - strange doesn't have a "bolt-in" 9 setup for the 05+ yet - they said later this year...

Dayum... that looks amazing!
Indeed - I will need to take lots of pictures so I can enjoy it even when I am not driving...

Now if my !@#$ing pistons would ever show up I could setup the other end of the car to be worthy of this beast...

I started to say that looks like a punkin' from a 9" assembly! The great thing about the 9" is that you can swap punkins in a few minutes to change a gear ratio. Speaking of gear ratios for 9", they come from 2.75 all the way to 6.50! The latter is typically used at Martinsville by the Winston Cup teams.

Damn they are fast too... I wish everyone in the industry had turnaround time like they do....

Thanks again Joe for the help with this - you and Moser have been right on top of things as usual...

Glad to hear it. Also glad to hear Moser took care of it quick. Did they have idea as to why it happened?
I know Tim emailed me saying he was on it but I heard nothing else.

Well, there are 2 operating theories:
1. supertwin clutch beat the hell out of my rear-end
2. supertwin clutch beat the hell out of the TT which then bound up at a bad time.

Support for either can be found in the fact that the rear of the car jerked to the right during the "final" burnout...

Short version is that the supertwin clutch beat the hell out my drive-line...

Studs were clearly bent (that's what started all of this), axle splines were twisted, true-trac binds slightly even now as one axle rotates against the other. Moser's assumption is that the flange of the TT has been bent, but there is enough metal in the lube to support bent/damaged worm gear as well or in addition to that...

Cekim,
Yep Got-o love the 9". My 5.0 ranger had one from a Lincoln.. Been hooked since.

Is that Detriot locker a fluid biased?
What is the largest spline fluid biased diff you ran accross for the 9"?

Thanks and +1 on nodular iron eventhough AL is tempting.

The Locker uses a spider gear and springs to engage/dis-engage from a central drive gear.

I did not see anything other than spools beyond 35 splines - but I have to admit I did not look too hard as 35 should be more than adequate for my most ambitious thoughts of power for this car...
