Guys,

I just received my set of Steeda MMs. What I thought I ordered were the full billet machined pieces, but instead I got something that looks pretty damn cheap. It's just two separate pieces tack welded together. Doesn't look like it'll hold much -- my fear is the mounts will eventually fail and separate at the weld joints. Should I be concerned?

What I ordered based on pics posted on many vendor sites:

What I received:

Now Steeda's website does show the "cheaper" looking models on their site, but also show an image of the full billet pieces as well > link directly from their site: http://www.steeda.com/products/_high_res/555-4005-engine_mounts.jpg.

i believe the red ones are stiffer, more of a heavy duty peice if i remember correctly

Well, there's only one part number for the motor mounts. The kit does include a set of black bushings as well that apparently are stiffer. My only concern is the reliability of the motor mounts I received ~ solid aluminum piece (what I was expecting) vs. 2 separate pieces tack welded together.

I contacted Steeda and they said the correct part is the one I received. When I asked about the solid billet pieces, they said they only use that picture for print media. What do you mean print media? Is Steeda misrepresenting their product? Most of the vendors use the image of the solid aluminum pieces. With that said, does anyone actually have the Steeda solid billet aluminum piece shown as their "print media" design?

Thx,
Mitch

I have the same mounts that you received. I've had them for over 2 years with no problems.

That kinda sucks if you were expecting something else, but companies do stuff like that all the time. It's probably written somewhere in some fine print that what you receive may differ from the picture.

That totally sux. I mean I would expect that maybe from something ordered on eBay, but Steeda? Oh well, I'll keep them but I'll make sure to research better the next time.

Thx,
Mitch

Let me clear this up. What you received is the correct part as according to the actual product picture on our website. The media link picture is of the older one, and should have been removed. Other vendors using that media picture are actually showing the incorrect picture, and our product photo on the website is the correct representation.

Sorry for any confusion, the media photo is actually being removed to prevent any future confusion. Those mounts are good and strong, and I have sold countless sets with no issues to hard driven high horsepower cars.

whoa, yeah, those do look cheap... I just jumped on their page and until today I had never seen those. They had always had the nice "Media" ones on their page and it's what I would have expected as well.

Steve,

Thanks for info and clearing things up. However, to be honest the one in the media link "looks" to be the better unit -- I know, looks can be deceiving, but the solid one-piece design is what sold me. Out of curiosity, why didn't Steeda manufacture the one-piece billet design instead?

Thanks,
Mitch

It does look pretty cheesy for what I believe are the most expensive poly mounts on the market (and now the ugliest lol). I have no doubt that functionally they are fine, but pretty stuff is easier to sell..

As far as the tack weld..well the thing is being compressed by the mounting bolt, I'm sure that part is just a spacer and the tacks are to keep it in place while you're putting it all together (in other words, non-structural).

Got examples? I've never encountered any bait and switch BS like that. I, for one, would love to know about any product (big or small) being misrepresented by major vendors.

Shame on Steeda. Go getcha some Prothanes.

Yep, just what I did! In the end I just wasn't impressed with their product, so I mailed them back to LRS in exchange for a set of Prothanes.

Steeda does make some really good stuff. As a matter of fact, most of my recent purchases have been Steeda suspension & chassis items; however I just wasn't convinced on the motor mounts.
