It could be an intermittent vacuum leak. The oil light will come on during low rpm conditions like the ones that occur with a vacuum leak. Have you gone over all the vacuum hoses, especially the one that goes to the brake booster? I've had that one look like it was hooked up but wasn't and it caused similar symptoms.

I am running breathers and I have not done anything at this point besides tow it home. I'm going tonight to work in my shop getting everything put away and organized so I can tear into the car. I still hadn't really got things put away in my shop I'm going to fix that so that I have a good clean work space.

I would drain the oil and send a sample out for analysis. Go to bobistheoilguy.com for info on where to send it. They will tell you how much and what kinds of metals are in the oil. It will give a very good indication of how much damage there is.

Plus cut open the filter like you said.

Obviously if you see a lot of metal in the drain pan or filter, you may not need to send out a sample. Hopefully, there is not enough to be easily seen. In that case, I think oil analysis is about $35.

Sounds like time for a built motor my friend, hate to rain on your parade though. Worth it? Hell yes! I know from experience putting the car down for a long period cause of budget constraints will be tough. But TOTALLY worth it in the end!

Drain the oil into something clean, and inspect with a flashlight. Start there and reply with what you find. Until then, it's all speculation.

Doing that tomorrow buddy. Last night a friend who is a Ford mechanic came over and listened to it. He said it sounds like the noise is coming from the front of the motor and is likely a broken VCT guide. Gonna pull the cam cover off and drain the oil tomorrow to see the damage if any to the valve assemblies (or whatever you call it). Then I'll bull the front of the motor off to see the damage there.

I'll report back tomorrow about the oil.
