Temp guage not working

I finally got my car together and took it for a drive today. All is well except that my temp guage isn't working. Is the sensor for that the one that is in the drivers side of the block with the heavy orange wire? I need to look at my old block and see if a rod didn't go through that area of the block and do damage to the sensor. If I remember right, that area was perforated from the engine grenading. It is possible that I connected it improperly, or another issue that I am overlooking. Am I looking at the proper sensor, and are there any other suggestions?

Not that this is going to help you any... but forget the analog idiot light and put in an aftermarket gauge.
