for the texas guys hanging around, i just did a job at a petroleum distribution yard. they're gearing up to start delivery of 10% ethanol for all grades of gasoline statewide. the drop dead date is supposedly oct1 (or maybe it was oct 15, he was throwing a lot of dates out there).

i was talking to one of the guys who works there, and he's into mustangs and was telling me that air fuel ratios will change to the lean side, and probably a 7% reduction in fuel mileage. (fior those who care about that)

i suppose for guys like me that are n/a and not making that much horsepower we can get by without a retune...i'm just kind of wondering what it means to the fi guys that have their afr dialed in just the way they want it.

so it's just a heads up for everyone, if it makes any difference. it might serve to check with your tuner for his input.

if i'm not mistaken, he was talking about state wide. perhaps we'll hear more info in the near future

Big ass state shaped like Texas
I live in south ass Texas so things always happen here last. I'll probably hear about the change in the news next march. :thud: +1 on the heads up though. Luckily according to the owners manual the car an accept 15% ethanol, so at we're not completely fucked for a while. lol.

huh. well i just thought thats how the gas is here in TX...so does that 10% have a negative effect on power production? it seems to me it would be negligble

according the the guy i talked to, octane ratings will remain the same. the ethanol does bump it up, however they are "degrading" each level by about 2 points so when the ethanol is added it will remain at the current 87, 91 and 93 octane levels.

10% showed up over here last October. Talked to a few tuners and some issues with F/I. N/A I saw my milage suffer by ~2mpg hwy...a little impact on 1/4 mile times. Talked with Doug about it too.,That's the norm so I added 1* timming for 2-4k rpm and pulled .5* from 4-7k rpm and car runs better and recovered 1mpg hwy. No change to AFR. Toatl timming @ WOT last time on dyno was in the 28 - 29 * range.

We have had 10% ethanol here in Iowa since the 1980"s. I buy the 10% 92 or 93 octane blended fuel, but I run the 91 octane tunes from Bama, just to be safe. I can't find any local stations that sell 93 octane without being blended.

We have it here in S. Fla, and I watched my mileage drop by about 1-2mpg. Also, check your plugs often, mine kept turning red, and got ruined a lot quicker. Stuff is more crap forced on us by the govt.

Well they have to find something to with all that corn, subsidised by the government. The whole biofuels concept is a huge boondoggle.

The ethanol wouldn't turn the plugs red, I can tell you that from experience.
