Alright guys it's time. Tired of putting it off. I'm looking at getting some 15x8 Jegs Sport Stars for starters. Im wondering if I'll need a 1/4 inch spacer to clear the caliper. Ok, onto the second order of business. What tires should I run? M/t e.t streets? Nittos? Also, what size? 275/50/15 or 275/60s? I'm on cobra jet springs and am concerned about the 28" tire being a bit too big. I don't want a full blown slick.

3.31s, manual transmission, roughly 290-300 hp. Just wanting to hook. Street tires aren't getting the job done.

run a 26" tall tire, a 28" tire with your power and 3.31s will KILL you out of the hole.

I would run a ET Street Radial

generally gears, however, if you have traction issues now, they will worsen off the line with 4.10s. If you stay n/a the tires will still work with the 4.10s

Yeah, I'm having problems already. Even feathering the throttle going into second, slipping the clutch off the line etc.

Buy ighter wheels. I had a Foxbodyvthst lost a half second in the 1/4 going from draglites to a nice looking but heavier wheel.

For a little more money, have you considered SVE Drag wheels? They don't need a spacer and are designed to fit our cars.
Are these tires for the track only? Since your car is a manual transmission, why not bias ply? I don't want you to chase traction issues at the track with the wrong tire. How do I know it sucks, read here http://s197forum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=115582 .
I agree with stkjock, 28" will kill you out of the hole.
What version of CJ springs?

FWIW: In my 05 GT, I went to a 275/50/15 ET Street Radial (26" Tire) on a 3.55 and it killed my MPH in the quarter. Tossed 4.10s in the car and picked my MPH back up to around 107.9-108.5 and have went a PB of 12.707. When I went to the 26" tall tire, I dropped my 60' by a .10. Then went to the 4.10 and dropped it another .150.

Set Up: 15x10 Race Stars, MT ET Street Radials (Running 12 PSI), BMR LCA w/ Relocation Brackets, BMR Adjustable Pan-hard Bar, BMR Pan-hard Bar Brace, Strange Single Adjustable Rear Shocks (Distributed by BMR), FRPP 4.10 Gears, No back seat or trunk lining, No front sway bar, Eibach Pro Kit Springs. Making 340HP

PB 12.707 @107.99. 1.73 60' launching @ ~6000 RPM (Launching by sound). Shifting @ 6600RPM. (Note: Far from good track prep, NMRA Norwalk is upcoming so hoping for better times next weekend.)

Ok guys thanks for the suggestions. I went ahead and ordered the 15x8 Jegs Stars and 275/50/15 mt et street radials. Gears will be next, but I'm working on a budget (hence the cheap wheels) so it may be a while.

And yes, these will be for track duty only. I'm only making right around 300 hp. From what I've read the et streets are good. Not necessarily for a stick car like qtp's, but it's gotta be better than what I have now. I have the 2013 cj's.

When you leave the line are you straight up dumping the clutch or do you slip it? Also, do you have any problems with traction when you shift into 2nd?

Im just dumping it. The car barks a little bit on the 1-2, not "Issues" with traction however.

sounds like it's too late as you ordered the radials, but I would've gone with the ET street bias ply tires - they work very well with stick cars.

I run them on my '05 (older cj springs, strange single adj struts/shocks, metco uca/lca, bmr relo brackets, 4.10's), 302rwhp/317rwtq, best of 12.095 @ 111.08 w/1.576 60' launching off the limiter at 6500 (excellent track prep and negative DA).

good luck with getting yours dialed in!

I was looking at bias plys but I know absolutely nothing about them lol. I mean, I can cancel them and order some et street pro's...

Drag radials will still work and they are more stable at speed when you let off. I doubt you'll see a big difference either way. I never competed competitively with any car I've owned (just fun runs and street driving), but I can tell you I will never own a bias ply tired car no matter what kind of transmission it has.

I'm just tired of spinning. I don't have alot done to my car, but I know it should be cutting better than a 9.0 1/8th. My buddy has an auto ls1 t/a that's slow as hell but keeps beating me because he hooks and I don't.

I had drag radials on two stick cars and they didn't slip. Opposite actually, they bit enough to bog or just hit and bit. Granted I was not above 325 hp on either car.

Like I said, I'm right at 300 with 3.31's. What were you launching at? Dropping the clutch or slipping it?

On my '05 I launched at 5000-5500 and I slipped the clutch as best as I could control it. Dropping the clutch gave me a bog every time. Hitting at 6000 was hard enough to make them spin. 5500 Would not make them spin. It was a very small window.

I'm sure with more practice I could have had it figured out.

I really don't want to launch that high until I get the technique down. New axles and driveshaft aren't in the budget just yet haha. What psi were you running?
