hey guys ,
as some of you may know , i put 4.10 gears in my 5 speed about a month ago,

i was on the fence about going 3.73 , or 4.10

i read up on what i could,, and i see from my own experience, that alot of people have the 4.10 misunderstood

so before the 4.10's ,, i had stock gearing, which after shifting to third on the highway felt like the wind just came out of the sails ..
sure 1st and second moved along just fine ,, but third and there after just sucked,

welp fast forward to the install of the 4.10 (also put relocation brackets and redid all the rear bushings control arms ect.)

* 1st gear is usable,, its not long but it is useable.
** 5th gear is now a racing gear,,,
*** fuel consumption is more ,, but not what you think if you drive normal, so maybe a 1 to 3 mpg hit, depending on when you shift.,
**top speed is no way effected, i mean yea it is , but you would never notice,(i got over 140 in mexico and quick)

** the looks on peoples faces when you take them to gapplebees because they think your a slow stock 3v..

now that said , i am all but FBO and mutha thumper cammed lito tuned ,, so im around the 400hp (crank)
so stock you wont move along as quick as me , but you will make alot of people notice the difference ..

now when i put my turbo on , ill see if i need to regear ,, but im more of a roll race type .(60mph -130)
but regardless ,i wanted to clear the air on the gears because from what i read, people seemed to have no idea what they are talking about

regardless , i think these cars need gears no matter what because stock gearing is going against the car imo
but whatever you choose ,, dont choose stock lol

Transmission and tires makes a big difference in final gear ratio. My 4.10s along with my rear tires makes it like about 3.80 final drive ratio when compared to stock.

My little 87’ 5.0L is set up to run 4.30 with 28” tire. I currently have 3.73 and 26” tire. I have been considering 4.10 but it runs so good on motor and it does have little juice. I have notice cars with turbo, nitrous usually like taller (lower numerical) gears so looking into my options.

Bye the way, I have owned and raced six Mustangs since 1986+ and have had; 2.73, 3.08, 3.27, 3.31, 3.55 and 3.73. Lol

I did have 4.10 in a 1980 Pontiac Trans Am! Lol

Remember with a 4:10 and a manual transmission with moist likely a 3.35 1st gear, 1st gear will be very short.

That’s why in my little coupe I have 2.95 first gear in my world class liberty pro-shifted T-5.

4.30 rear was recommended with 2.95 and 4.10 with 3.35. I had 3.73 and left them because the car ran so good. ;)
