I'm new to forums and mustang's. I have a 05 mustang gt i bought and i want to build up the hp! I have been reading my ass off about what i should do and need some sound advise on what i can do. I would like to go n/a and looking for 450 hp. What do i need to get there as in everything that will be needed on the car? I'm thinking 323ci short block,Heads, cams & longtube headers. What else is needed after this?

well you would need all the basic bolt-ons plus things like bigger fuel pump.

you know you can get more than 450rwhp supercharged for less than half the money it would cost yo do it N/A.

Welcome ! If you want 450 rwhp then get blown . 450RWHP NA will be a battle. And when I say NA I mean with N20.

Are you trying to get 450 "rear wheel" HP or flywheel HP? 450+ FWHP is very do-able.

450+ at the wheels, even with a big bore stroker, heads, cams and every bolt-on under the sun is going to be near impossible with the parts on the market today.

I'm not going to say that it will never happen, but I'd pay to see it. Some things are possible but it would be a huge challenge.

Thanks everyone for the responce. I thought about the whipple s/c and i have read that 450 rwhp is as far as you would want to go on a stock motor. Can you change out the cams for the great sound using a supercharger on a stock motor and be somewhat safe? Would i need to change out the heads also if i was to s/c? What i'm looking for is more rwhp and a great sound. I want to make sure that i do everything correct. If i need to upgrade the block then i will to make sure this is done the right way. Thanks for all the advice.

Sure you can get cams to work with a blower, but blower grinds won't have the chug-chug-chug of a thumper/hot rod cam.

Get you wallet ready. What you are proposing is 10K + .

Yea, i know it will get expencive and i have set aside about 20k for my build so far and i just want to figure out exactly what i want to do before i start buying a bunch of parts and figure out later that i should have gone a different rought. I guess what i'm asking here is for 20k what would most of you do in my situation? I thought by going n/a rought i could build a very solid motor with plenty of h/p and a great sounding car and i would not have to worry about the engine breaking down if i was to install a supercharger and then go through building up the block to handle it.

Shit, for $20k in parts, you can build a low 10 second supercharged car. You might come up a bit short for labor though...

Ballpark pricing: $23k - $25k

Forged block = $4000
Ported Heads = $2000
Cams = #700
FI System of your choice = $6000
Trans and Rear Mods = $3500
Labor and misc parts = $5k - $7k

Exactly! Everytime i put down on some paper of what i want to do by way of supercharging i start getting up around 25k just in parts. I have money put away for the labor also. My thing is this, why spend 25k+ plus car cost to get h/p gains that i could have spent in getting a fairly new cobra for same amont of money and then i could build that up for much less and probably get even more h/p? But i don't want do is get cheap and build something thats not done the right way and regret it later. This is why i think about a strong n/a build for around maybe 15k. What i don't want is to get beat by a stock dodge or camaro! Why have a sports car if it going to be the slowest out there! This drives me nuts but it will be alot of fun.

Ive said time and time again.. us NA guys are glutten for punishment. If you stick with Na you have to make the combo of the whole car work... and not just fall back on the hp your making. Are you drag racing? road racing? or strickly street car? You can make any combo fast with the right set up.

For a bolt on FI kit you cannot beat the power you will make and the money you will spend period.

I just want a nice street ride. Yea i know that alot of people like to supercharge over n/a and its cheaper to get more h/p this way but everytime i start to think about building a supercharged build i get up there in the 25k range. I know for about 15k i can do a supercharger, longtube headers, heads?,cams?,and all the other little things thats needed but then you get right at the max point on the engine right? What to do what to do...

you dont HAVE to have heads and cams on a supercharger build. Many people are making decent numbers (600 plus) with stock heads and cams..........If I were you, I would buy an assembled short block from a reputable company (livernois, BBR, etc) and have a shop or yourself (depends on your skill level) install it with your stock heads, cams, etc. Then buy the supercharger of your choice along with the fuel system, suspension, clutch (if manual)..........you can do that easily around 15k maybe a little more.

Truth...

Well, kind of... not dependable and able to get 30K miles out of it as a DD; but not impossible (and this also will weigh heavy on your choice of dyno/tuner ;) )

JMO, but a goal should be either:

1. Reliable track car.

2. Reliable daily driver weekend racer.

Both very expensive, yet pick one, and stick to it... boost, n/a, N20, whatever... stick to it... mixing those is where comfort, reliablility, and fun are a mess. And thats not even throwing in track days!

Rich has hit a great medium of ALL... the fuck if I know how he did, but he did ( I dont even think he knows... wuddup Rich :) ).

None of the effort, skin, and $ is worth it unless you can enjoy... Build for most enjoyment... there's alwayse someone faster at this or that...

Personally, I think its hard to beat the fun of driving your car to the track, drag or lap, then drive home... that's what I call a WIN :hi:

So the heads are fine with a supercharger? why i am thinking about cams is for a better sound. It is a manual, so clutch will be replaced. I will also do a short throw shifter, driveshaft, springs, dampers, tune all that kind of stuff for sure. I am worried about the engine and i hear you about replacing the block. Lets say i like levernois which is better to put a supercharger on? I have a certain point that if i'm going to cross then why not go all the way with a monster? I'm back in forth on this so thats why i joined to try and get alot of advise from everyone. Thanks from all of you and i'm glad i did post this. Ya'll know way more than i do and i'll keep reading and make up my mind real soon i hope! Keep it coming...

I see your pont! To be completly honest i just want a dependable driveable car that has enough h/p and will sound awsome! I don't like to have a car that will get beat by another bone stock car. I know i will have great fun building this with my buddy's. What we can't do i will take and pay someone to finish it. I just want to make sure i try and get it right the first time and meet my goals. Thanks
