Not if you have the torque to back it up...

we've bogged the coupe on a 28" slick on a real tight track

few guys we race with have also flat lined some big power nitrous motors on a 275 drag radial....

you better make a TON! or have you suspension not very well sorted

Most people seem to have one or the other it seems but even if you are alittle down on power having the gear to turn the tire over is always helpful.

However while we're on the subject, I watched an 03 cobra with 3.55's and a 28" tire (10.40's) car lanch at 4k friday night and it dead stalled on a track not exactly known for it's prep. Just another example...

gear will always help... but it also kills you up top if you have to much.
air pressure is another way to help if you run a big slick and its bogging... add a pound or 2 of air pressure till it spins then back it back down.

i always say racing is a balancing act. cant have to much of one thing or to little of another.

Sorry to thread jack but Ive got the same question. First, the car.

Whipple HO w/3.25 pulley (12#)
373s
FRPP Hotrod cams
dynotech 1 pc ds
BMR adj LCA, non adj UCA and hd brace, Adj phb and brace, relo brackets.
2754018s on all 4s (continental extreme contacts DW)
BBK tb

Worried about that rear tire size/width.....

I know I would need a sway bar relo kit and better lugs, but its that rear tire size... too much tire???

I think you'd be ok with those, prob a bit more then u need, but should be ok, however with 4.10s it would probably be ideal

I have the MT 325/50/15's on 15x10 racestars and I'm not a fan. I get the same amount of traction from my 275 M&H's on my stock 17" rims so when I kill these MT's I'm going back to M&H.

I had 4.10's in my car but I don't make power above 5700 rpms with my current set-up so I switched back to 3.73's and my car definitely prefers it. I picked up 3-4 mph in the 1/4 and my launch is much more consistent.

If you don't plan on doing a lot of street driving on your track tires I'd say go with Hoosier DR's but they don't last nearly as long as MT's or M&H so it's a trade-off.

Yeah, thats the dilemma, I think its overkill on size, especially since Ive been now told I need to cut some bracing out for them to fit. relo brackets for sway bar is no big deal, just dont want to cut parts off the car for wide tires, its a damn good deal for that setup but if they dont work out and I need smaller tires then the "great deal" isnt so great anymore....

well you could always buy the set, remove the 325s and put on 295s, however if you go 15 x 10s you need the reloc brackets

10-4 on needing the sway bar relocation brackets. That I know I'll need for the wider rims. Im also concerned about the BMR relocation brackets, if things start hitting or needing major modifications its territory I would like to avoid if possible. And I know, ya gotta pay to play....

True. But what about the rear gears? Leave the 373s or install the 410s Ive got sitting. BTW this is not a DD.

Depends, if u go 28" tire and it's primarily a track car, 4.10s

If you got a shorter tire then 3.73s

If you go 28s then get some 4.56s. Don't fear the gear 4.10s are not enough for bolt-on car with a 28in tall tire. If you decide on a 26in tall tire 4.10s are ok. Imo sell the 4.10s and go with atleast 4.30s even on a 26in tall tire espeically since you say it is not your dd.

I have 275/60/15 ET Streets, a 4.10 gear, and 400whp all motor. I'm about to go to a 4.56 gear. The tires DEAD HOOKED a 6400RPM launch and killed the rear end lol. Notice how hard the car bogs on the first pass. I even granny shifted 2nd because I am use to it moving WAY faster through the powerband. 2nd pass I broke before I even had the clutch pedal all the way out lol.

Well looks like I will leave the 373s for now and go with a 26" tire, that should put me closer to a 3.90 gear ratio I think...
