The 11 went to the tuner with 2586 miles on it.
The 14 went to the tuner with 663 miles on it.

Whats the big deal? So you bought a nice 400hp car to drive around in while you pay it off then save to mod it? Is that so difficult?

I usually keep the mods off until the warranty is up. After that its free reign since its on my dime. If you spent so much on a car you can't afford to save some money for minor mods in your budget, you probably shouldn't have bought the car in the first place.

You're generically right, but there were a couple of personal events at work here. 1. My '08 was t-boned and totaled. Got the '11 and managed to reduce my payments. 2. When I had the '08 I was also single and kid-free. Now, I'm engaged, have a little one living with me, and up until last week was paying for 70% of our expenses while the Mrs. was in school. She just graduated and will be contributing to our budget much more in the very near future.

I guess part of my previous statement was reflective of my personal budget for the last year and a half, but being able to have a better car for a lower payment and the ability to mod, very slowly, but still be able to, is worth it IMO.

Bought new in 07, and paid off in 2012. The car has an axle back and sound equipment on it now that went on after it was paid off. She has 907xx miles on her as of this morning. No real plans to change much. It does need a few things like window tint redone, driver seat is tearing, and the arm rest replaced. That will happen come spring.

I do have to fight dropping a good chunk of change on it at times. But buying, breaking, fixing, breaking, fixing, selling, and repeat on Jeeps normally gets my mod money though. That and I buy/mod/sell older cars quite a bit to fight the speed bug.

She still cleans up decent though in my opinion once winters passes.

Eh. Mine is BARELY modded. Wheels, a little bit of suspension, tune, exhaust. That's it. I can't do anything major until it's paid off.....still working on that. Took me a few years to ditch all the negative equity I was carrying from the car I traded on it. I don't owe a ton on the car anymore, but my payment isn't very big either due to refinancing a couple times to lower the payment and interest rate. I've dropped $450 out of the payment and 3.9% out of the interest rate. It's helped my monthly belt feeling in general, but it's going to be longer before I get any big mods.

I can respect that. Very much so. I was in that kind of situation on the '08 I had. Then it was side-swiped, totaled, and GAP took care of the rest.

I buy used cars so my 2006 GT was purchased (entirely cash) early 2011 after my quick VQ35 engine swapped 95 Maxima was side swiped. I immediately got a diablosport programmer and intake for the Mustang, sadly just didn't feel faster than the Maxima without it. Got gears a few months later and I have been very content.

I don't know about trading for a older Shelby, as my similarly aged 10 year old GT is really starting to feel like an old car to me, though I plan to keep this car as long as fate allows me because I really love the car and the bodystyle. Hopefully another 10 years.

My general rule has been to get all the bolt-ons and supporting mods done while I pay on the car. Nothing wrong with say exhaust, cai, gears, suspension and even cams if they are within reason (like NSR cams on a 3V). Then when the car gets paid off is when it's time to go as crazy as I want because I'll have more cash flow.

Not to mention that I just won't get that upset if I blow a motor or a transmission on a car that's paid for. I 'll just use it as an opportunity to upgrade to either a bigger motor/transmission or just sell it and buy another car and start over if another platform is calling my name. Like say the coyote or GT500
