I'm guessing some of your race guys are running trans/diff coolers. I need some advice.
Because I added the belly pan to the car and PLENTY of room to mount a cooler I figured it would be a good idea to add a trans cooler.
I'm not seeing a whole lot of options as far as pumps go. In fact if I am looking for constant operation (I am) it looks like the Tilton #40-527 is the only option. One thing that has me a bit worried is the "head" is plastic and it recommends running plastic NPT-AN fittings. Really, plastic? Any advice here? Any other pump suggestions?
The pump has 3/8NPT fittings but I have a ton of -10 Kevlar braided hose and lots of -10 hose ends on hand. My cooler, which was supposed to be an oil cooler and didn't fit right also has -10 fittings. It looks from Tilton's literature that running big lines/fittings/cooler is actually a good thing. Thoughts on this?
Tilton mentions running a check valve, anyone doing this?
Tilton says it is not a bad idea to run a filter, anyone doing this?
Tilton says it is best to mount the pump after the cooler (therefore sucking through the cooler) because the pump runs cooler and lasts longer. I get the concept, but sucking through the cooler seems like it would have its downsides.
Any input would be appreciated.
Thanks a lot!
