Hello, I’m new here to the forums and to the whole S197 world. I bought a 2005 Mustang GT Premium with an automatic transmission last month (yes, I know — I’m sorry I didn’t get a manual; there were none for sale in good condition).
The car has been a blast to own and drive. Yesterday, I drove it to work like usual with no issues at all. The car drove perfectly fine, just like it always has.
When I left work last night, I put the car in Drive and took off. About 0.2 miles down the road, the car suddenly felt like it was in Neutral. I had no Reverse or Drive — only 1 and 2.
I was able to get home by carefully working with the transmission. I had 1st and 2nd gear, but when it tried to go into 3rd, it acted like it was in Neutral. However, if I got up to about 42 mph and then shifted it into Drive, it would move and drive normally. As long as I stayed above that speed, it would shift and downshift, but I still had no Reverse.
There were no grinding, clunking, or unusual noises at all — just the sound of the engine running.
I tried disconnecting the battery to reset the PCM, but that didn’t change anything. At this point, I’m pretty stuck and hoping it’s something minor. I’m also hoping the cold weather isn’t causing the car to act up.
Has anyone experienced something like this, or have any ideas on what might be going on?
