I'm posting this here because the 5.0 groups get seen more than the 3.7 groups, but my problem could run between the two engine families,
I bought a 13' Base 3.7 that had been disassembled to become a race/track car. The vehicle has been completely reassembled and is currently running and driving. Actually very well, with one exception. I think it has a former tune in it and it's causing a really aggressive shift strategy. Too aggressive for my taste. This is more of a driver at this point and I'd like to calm it down about half or put it back much closer to stock strategy.
Here's my question. Since I'm not looking for performance gains, what would be the most cost effective method to get the vehicle shifting closer to the way it came from the factory?
I can't see dropping $500-600 for a tuner to essentially go backwards.
Do any of the lower cost tuners allow for modifying the transmission shift strategy or am I going to have to submit info to a tuner?
I use Forscan on a regular basis but I am rather new to the tuner side of things.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Are there any engine mods done that require a tune?

Depending on how this one was tuned, you might be able to have it flashed back to stock much cheaper than getting a custom tune. But that would also put the engine parameters back to stock. So if the engine requires a tune, you’ll have to pay for that again.

I don't know the complete history on this vehicle. I do know that the engine and transmission are not original to the vehicle.
The transmission valve body code has however been inputted to the PCM and it did accept it.

If it's got a tune, you need the original tuner to do anything. Full history what was done with the tune is required. Forscan won't help you here because you won't be able to get into all the modules. With my old XL SCT 11 I can soften the shifts or make them more aggressive.

If you just want softer shifts, try a low-cost tuner with a stock or daily driver mode. Some let you adjust shift firmness without paying for a custom tune. You can also use Forscan to reset the TCM adaptations which can help bring shifts back closer to stock.
