Trunk light and 3rd brake light not working

My inside trunk light and the 3rd brake lights in my car don't work and I was wondering if there is a common point of failure or if I need to start chasing wires.

Check the wiring harness for a loose or contaminated connection.

Assuming you already checked bulbs...

The bulbs are new and I can't really see anything that tells me it's busted.

I would probably start by checking whether the lamps are getting a proper ground, and whether the wires in the harness are fraying around where it typically flexes.
