I don't blame them at all. People do things all the time they shouldn't. Guy I know destroyed the transmission in his WRX. Took the whole car back to stock, went in for coverage and tried to have them repair it. They denied it. Another guy I know just traded in his pontiac grand prix with a compression problem on one cylinder and the dealer has no idea what they just took on. And odds are they will find some sucker to pass that car on to and then it'll be his problem.

People just suck and it's human nature to be tempted to dump our problems onto someone else if we think we can get away with it.

Agreed.

I'll stick with my 06 until this is all straightened out but if that TSB is any indication I may never own one of the new 5.0's. I'd also be interested in finding out if any stock engines have had these issue's. I cannot believe any car company would put out a high performance vehicle like this with a motor that cant handle a 10%-20% increase in performance.

So the 5.0 can't handle a 10%-20% increase huh? There's quite a few members here that'll find that amusing. You're drinking too much internet koolaid my friend.

Looks like GM is also using a form of tattle tail,
"The Bosch ECM used in the LMM Duramax has an added tamper tattle tale. It stores the last 10 ECM
programming sessions. This means if you load ANYTHING other than GM’s own sequential updates
there will be a record stored. This record will not say who or when only that some non standard
programming has been loaded. Additionally, the GM Service Programming system will not allow the
technician to download the same updates repeatedly so there should only be a couple lines of entries and
it will also not work to repeatedly load the OEM tuning thus filling all 10 lines with the same info. This
will be a dead giveaway. This is not to say that there is no safe way to modify your vehicle."

Same applies to Corvettes after 2008 and new Camaros as well. GM got sick of giving people free $10,000 C6 Z06 engines I guess :)

why the hell should ford cover something they didnt sell?

I don't think that's what people are worried about. The way this TSB is worded, it sounds like Ford could say "You have aftermarket mufflers installed, therefore your engine warranty is void."

i dont read it that way. it looks to me that ford is empowering professionals (dealership techs) to decide if an aftermarket modification caused failure.

all of this is standard procedure. i think ford is just wanting the dealership to start looking a little closer...

yep i think most dealerships were operating under, if its not forced induction or n2o then go ahead and warranty it because tunes, CAI, exhaust dont cause engine problems. With the Coyote they are saying yeah a Tune is enough to break the engine. So that is a little scary.

It's still weird that a tune only will have this issue when some people are running 600-700whp without issue.

because it all depends on the knowledge of the tuner

Depends on the tuner, I heard it's all in leaving the knock sensor alone.
There are plenty of tuned 5.0's running around very healthy.

People are acting like this is happening to hundreds of cars a day lol.
There are 3-4 "internet known" cases, and they were all tuned.

Not everybody is on the internet. I think it would take more than 3 or 4 cases for Ford to make a TSB on the subject. But you are right people become paranoid quick. What turning the heater on full blast in the summer will kill the engine???? Should I remove my heater core before it kills my engine???

Bottom line. You changed their product from how they designed it. Pretty black and white. Ford sells all kinds of powerlevels. Just pick one you can be content with or buy used

Makes me want to get a Lund tune ASAP.
Do it.
this TSB is Ford's authorization in writing to allow their technicians to tell you to go fuck yourself.
Basically.
If you've got an aftermarket tune on there, you may as well install the SC of your choice, because it's all the same to Ford.
Word.
if i understood it correctly, according to that diagram, if your battery was ever disconnected (say to get the damn thing replaced) and for one reason or another you have P1000 DTC, that's grounds to "initiate warranty cancellation process"
Yup.
I talk to a Ford tech yesterday ,and from what he said, when they pull the data from mode 6 and 9 ,it contains the history of ALL codes and changes that have ever happened to the car after it was built . Heavy equipment builders have used this for a few years now and they call it "tattle tale " .The only way to clear it is for the factory to clear it,techs and dealers can't clear it .
oops

I can't blame Ford, not one bit.

Just pick up a 5.0 in a couple years when the warranty is nearly up; you'll save a ton of cash anyway.

My car stickered for 37,000 CDN, I bought it two years old (mostly garaged) with < 6,000 miles for 22,500 = WINNING

Honestly if they sold new cars without the warranty for cheaper I would buy one. Give me a 90 day/3000 mile warranty to cover any major defects and let me spend that built-in warranty cost on mods. But yea, in a couple years base 2011 GTs should be close to 20K for a low mile used example. As long as you dont get stuck with something that has been ragged out and de-modded :)

I could never understand why people think Ford (or any other company) should fix their car under warranty if they screw it up. Warranties are made to protect a consumer against bad parts, assembly and engineering. Its not a freebie for every amateur hot-rodder and/or paid tuner to take advantage of if their experiment fails. I'm pretty sure if Ford thought they get another 30HP out of one of these and not affect long term reliability they would, horsepower is a big selling point..
