So what are you guys seeing just cruzing
Im on Stock Thermostat

My idiot gauge on the dash is at the half way mark , that seems normal
after a little drive and the car idling in the drive the aeroforce gauge says 228, Idiot gauge still at the half way mark.

Head temp is at like 240

My coolant gauge hasn't changed either. But with what you're saying it kind of makes me want to monitor the data stream. It stays about halfway. Also curious bc my turbo is water cooled.

Mine hasn't went above 198 while normal driving. It did hit 210 at the track but i did sit the staging lane for about 5 minutes prior to making my first run.

I see about 210 after very hard runs, normal driving I dont go above 195 with a 190 thermostat.

OK Im a little confused

Ill start over and see if this makes sense

I looked at all of the logs I sent Lito
After a hard pull the car in the logs never went over 200

So this was my third tune from Lito
he wanted me to bump up the boost to 9lbs
I was messing with the EBC, I had the alarm set at 10.5
I went out and didnt make a hard pull but rather just started bringing up the RPM to see what boost level i was getting
Well it did over boost, I saw the alarm go off and i got out of it.
I wasnt in alarm but a few seconds
So then I drove it around the block and started to head home when I see the Factory gauge reading high not in the red but almost
I get in the drive way and the fans are on and the head temp is like 240 on the interceptor.
I put it in the garage and put a box fan in front to cool it down more
later I check and the overflow is half empty, so i fill that
Later is when I program the interceptor to read coolent and I see the 228.
So this morning I let it warm up, take my son for a ride, gauge on dash never goes over half, but car is still running 225
I checked the oil no water in it.
So did I jack something up?
Or is it just a coincidence and maybe I have a stuck thermostat?
Both fans are running.
Im thinking about reloading a tune (#2) that the car ran ok with and see what happens.

I don't think this is going to tune related. I am pretty sure Lito has left my fan settings factory.

I didnt either
but in trouble shooting I wanted to go back to a known good variable
I loaded the second tune, car still runs up to 225

So Im thinking I either have a air pocket, bad therm or maybe a bad water pump?

Air really seems to be my first guess since we had that all apart when we added the turbo.
I just need to figure out the best way to bleed the air out if there is any

When you were adding coolant was the car running?
I add a bit of coolant, turn the engine on and continue to pour in coolant while squeezing the coolant hoses that go to the thermostat to "burp" any air out. (cold start/cap off of course)

Yea I'm sure we did.

Weird thing is I put 50 miles and 3 data logs. Some hard pulls and never got over 200 in the logs
So I'm not sure why it would get an air pocket all the sudden?

I ordered a new 170 degree t stat and we will see what happens after I get that installed
I'll try filling with the cap off and car running for sure
Can't really blurb upper hose due to the S&H. Kit yes a solid piece and only has a small hose bent at the input to the t stat. But I'll try and burp it there

I burp mine by squeezing the bottom hose. The stock coolant gauge won't budge until you hit 250*, then it will go to the red.

Mine runs 188-200 normal highway driving, 200-220 in traffic with the A/C on.

I just looked at all my logs since the new engine went in(about 12 logs with tuning and two dyno sessions). The highest my coolant temp ever got was 198. I filled my coolant system with the engine running and the front of the car pretty high in the air since it was still up from the engine install. Topped itoff with the cap off and idleing, didnt burp it at all.

I have the stock 190 thermostat in mine and it runs 190-200 normally and will go up to about 210-220 in heavy traffic, or idling, with the air on and outside temps high. I never let it get over 220 so I don't know if it would continue to increase.

Thanks guys

I will try to get pics but its the ON3 hard pipe with the elbow and a small piece of hose to the rad.

I have stepped away from the car for a while
I need to get a new SC and Headers on my sons car
So ill revisit this in a few weeks

Ill try burping the bottom hose and see if that helps

Ok

So I took another look at the car tonight

I was wondering if the fans may be only coming on low, I didn’t know how much noise they should be making
So I wired in a disconnect in case I need to replace the thermal coupler

I listened to the Fans
Then I remembered my youngest son thought the fans are pushing air out not in.
But we didn’t think that could be because when you put your hand in the engine compartment you could feel what seemed to be air coming in
Well I decided to give it a smoke test, I got a cheap cigar and lit it up.sed my portable battery jumper for 12 volts and I connected the red wire to positive and the white wire to ground.
It was pushing the cigar smoke away from the car.
I put my hand in the engine bay and I could feel air, it seemed to be coming in??
So I reversed the wires, and know smoke was being drawn into the engine bay.
The only thing I can figure is the fans pushing out toward the radiator bounce back and makes it seem like air was coming in.
This is my theory. So know I need to get the car off the dollies and check it out, my sons car is still in the way, I hate to run the car up to temp in the garage.
And this still doesn’t explain why the first three logs never went over 200
But hey if this fixes it I’ll be happy

200-220 does not seem to be cause for alarm if it spikes and then comes back down. That's what the system does. If it always runs hot, I think you are on the right track. My older 5.0 did the same thing. First it was the wrong thermostat in the box and then it was an air pocket. After that it was fine and never went above 220 and when it got close it cooled off after a short trip at normal speed. At idle and in traffic it never got above 195.

A cooler t-stat seems like a band aid fix to me. The correct OE t-stat will allow the car to run clean and efficient.

OK Switching the fan wires made it better
Never went over 199 while driving
Came home and turned the AC on and it got up to 202
I have not started data loging again and no hard pulls yet.
I will try to get it all set up to log and see what happens

Havent had a lot of time to drive the car
But it got hot here outside 95 degrees

My wife had me put new brakes on her cousins car, So I took the mustang when we dropped her cousins car back off
this was the first time I ran the car with the AC on. good drive like 10 miles.
The car was at 230 when I got to her house
I sat in the drive way for a few minutes while my wife took her the keys
Car didint cool down below the 230.
needless to say I was pissed as hell
So I told my wife that we would take the interstate back home
Well on the highway the car cooled down to 210.
So when I got home I let it idle in the drive for a while.
It stayed at 210
I never put the rad cover on , as I have a new glass one we need to paint
Also the front bumper needed to come back off so I never installed the under carriage plastic, my son wonders if it isnt turbulent air flow causing the issue.
I double checked the fans AND THE ARE RUNNING FINE
So I ordered this today UView 550000 Airlift Cooling System Leak Checker and Airlock Purge Tool Kit

Im thinking its a air pocket
