Has any of you turbo guys done or considered just dumping the exhaust altogether?

Greg's race car 4V is actually quiet as a mouse at idle with the turbos serving as the exhaust. I haven't heard it driving though and wondering what the noise factor would be while cruising around. It would be nice to drop the weight of the exhaust if it isn't too loud.

i don't have straight dumps out of the turbo's but did run it with the slp's out the back and loved the sound it did have a little volume to it but in all honesty it really wasn't bad , it would be nowhere near the slp's with longtubes for damn sure

I know its not the same but I started my diesel with just the down pipe and it was stupid loud. It is a variable vein so that makes a bit of difference.

I have the corsa axel back and from what i know it is a straight through resignator (sp?) I could feel a lil difference in spool time switching from the flowmaster setup i had before but have always thought about just welding in some tips and nothing else on the car....

i've done straight through... was ok at cruising speed but under gas it was WAY too loud. I was afraid i was going to get pulled over so i switched to the flowmasters, then SLP's, now dynomax bullets (all mid-mount). None have been great though. Next will be bullets but shorter (like 9") to make it a little louder

Just dump them. It's more of a race car now anyway so make sure you have an adequate down pipe size and dump them at least past the firewall.

i actually tried this one time, i have a MPt70, with pypes mid mufflers. i replaced the center mid muffler section with the stock section. so it was straight out the rear. it was the worse sound i have ever heard, spent the next hour putting the mid mufflers back on.

i would run mid mufflers or what ever you prefer, the turo will quiet it down a little bit. then run a electric cut out and flip the switch at the track.

The borla is a long tube header right? That doesnt make sense that will quiet it down. Am I missing something?

Oh like race bullets. Thanks Don. Went to borlas site before I posted and stopped when I seen xr-1 long tube headers. Makes sense now.

Here is a Twin Turbo S197 with no mufflers / dumped exhaust. It is Litebulb's car, he is on this forum.

Probably the best looking S-197 Turbo cars. No Mufflers on this.

Sorry guys I have to buck the system on this one. I had a 5 in down pipe on my track only car that actually wassn't EXTREMELY LOUD except under full throttle load. I have a buddy whole has the Helion kit with no mufflers and it sounds like ass when he gets on it.I went the complete opposite way on my Roush....I have the Roush offroad exhaust out back but I went with the Pypes mandral bend over axel pipes with their 2 1/2 in bullets welded in right in front of the rearend. At idle you can't hardly hear the car and with the turbo being quiet it is quite stealthy...until you get on it..then it gets load in a hurry but nothing annoying. Guess I just like being different. My 04 Cobra is louder than the turbo car.

The twin turbo car that is dumped sounds a little too loud for DD. And it sounds like its got a pretty lopy cam for a turbo car. Anyone have a sound clip of a dumped single turbo s197 with stock heads and cam?
