Wastegate seal looks crushed?

Have you guys run into this before, I am trying to find out if I need a new seal or not. The wastegate is new and I opened it to change the spring only to notice that this seal looks crushed, but is it like this for a reason maybe?

Damn that things is thrashed. The diapraghm is pinched though. Shouldn't be like that

My thoughts exactly, do you think I could put it in boiling water to get its shape back or something? Now I am thinking I should check the BOV I am sure it uses a similar seal.

Mine looked similar to that when I changed my spring. Its been holding now for 7k+ miles

Well how would you know it's holding though? I guess it could leak internally but just leak to atmosphere at the top port. I wonder what that would do as far as performance goes?

Mine holds 9 lbs steady. I also tested it with an air compressor and no air was leaking.

I just don't see how this seal would keep from leaking, it's not even seated in the groove of the BOV. Anyone else experience this?

Just put a little vaseline on it when you reassemble it, so that you don't risk pinching it again. Looks fine to me otherwise.

I guess what I will do is put it back together and bench test it with a compressor maybe use some soap bubbles too to see if there are leaks.
