You autocrossed on drag radials?

Haha, yup.

I even had a guy come for along for a run, he was amazed how much grip I had, and that the tires weren't rolling over onto their sidewalls.
This guy's been autocrossing since '99, he's occasionally an instructor, and he usually runs his '99 Cobra that's highly modded

Washed it. Then drove to my brother's house to take his 2009 GT500 for a spin since it's fresh out of AED after a pulley swap/CAI/dyno tune. 546rwhp

My car feels like a Prius now

Just ordered a new serpentine belt, belt tensioner, and another OEM idler pulley, just in case there's a weird looking one when I do the job.
$65 shipped for all OEM stuff from rockauto.com

Already have a new blower belt.
Don't want to reinstall the 4-year-old 37k-mile serpentine belt when I do the blower belt.
Will also install the 170-degree thermostat I've had for over a year, and most likely install the 3.125" Whipple pulley.
The newly hydro-dipped coolant tanks should be ready today or tomorrow.
Re-tune in about a week, with a different tuner than the last time.

Wait till he upgrades the blower.
The Shelby with a TVS on it ... mucho fun, even with drag radials on it.

I also would've thought you'd de-bead them.

Now go out and get some real tires.

Yeah he says he's fine for now, but I give him a few months. Who knows though. His LS swapped '70 Z28 is almost done and that will be good for around 650 at the tire, so he might be happy with that. I'm going to bug him about it constantly. He has R888s on the Shelby right now (305 rear) and it hooks up good. Last weekend we swapped out most of the suspension so it's set up really nice now, it's ready for big power.

Yeah I'm still surprised how well they did, especially on the 9.5"-wide wheels those 305/40's are mounted on.
That size bubbles out a bit on those wheels, they really should be on 10-10.5"-wide wheels, and for autocross probably closer to an 11" wide wheel.

But regardless, I have a few things to do to the car before I go autocrossing again.
I learned more during this event than I've learned in all the other events I've done, and I now know my car is not set up for this kinda stuff.

I want a new dedicated set of wheels and tires, new brake pads front and rear, the new brake fluid I'll be doing shortly, and also contemplating switching away from the yellow Konis to a Bilstein set-up.

That's doing it the right way, suspension first, then power.
If the car can't put the power down, there's no point in adding more, lol.

Meh, don't just start throwing parts at the car. Put some good tires on it, put some decent brake fluid (I recommend ATE Gold) and pads on it, and leave the rest alone.

Before you change a part, you need to know that it is the part holding you back and not your driving.

Yeah I learned Saturday that my driving wasn't up to par.
Cuz once I really started pushing, the car fought back within 3 runs, and I was calling it a day.
I definitely need new brake fluid and pads for this kinda stuff, and I really should do a dedicated set of wheels and tires.

This guy with his '12 V6, running GT suspension and 275mm tires on 18x10.5 rims, was running 8-10 seconds faster than me, fast enough for the top spot in the Mustang class:
(yes, he was quicker than that nice new '16 GT350 driven by a veteran driver)

He took me for a run and I was shocked how hard he actually was on his car. That was my wake-up call. After that I got within 7 seconds of his times, got my 3 quickest runs of the day, and started cooking my fluids and brakes.

One point I always try to tell people that I have learned over the years of racing, it's way easier to push/beat your car/bike when you have a lot less invested in it. That's why I always ran salvage title bikes when I was racing.... if you completely bin it, at least it wasn't a clean titled bike to begin with.

Another reason why I hate it when people get all worked up that guys with Ferraris get passed on a road course by fox body Mustangs. Yeah, the Ferrari is supposed to be way faster.... but if you paid that much for a car, you would probably have hard time pushing it to its limits too... especially since standard insurance company policies don't cover damage on track.

....sigh.... off the soap box now.

Hell yes.

Hmmm maybe R888's are in order then.

I don't really know if I would like a GT350 for autocross in all honesty. Just doesn't seem suited for it.

Yup, I have much more invested in my car than my buddy with the V6 does, and he knows it, he calls it a cheap car, and he certainly thrashes it as such.
I was always afraid to push because of tires, brakes, wheels, whatever my reason was.
On the last 3 runs Saturday I pushed harder than I ever have.
At least I now know what the weak points are in the car.

Gabe, take a look at my build thread. It's in the Corner Carver's section.

Will do!

Well, it's factory-built for handling, so I'd try it.
But if I bought one I'm not sure if I'd be out there thrashing it on a course that's much better suited for Miatas and other smaller cars

Absolutely gorgeous!

Thanks Brian. Now to find some decent wheels with correct offsets that don't break the bank. Surprisingly I like the look of the Cobra R's on it but the offset is all wrong and there is very little clearance. Front wouldn't work at all.
