I think a 20 lb savings in the driveshaft will correlate more closely to 50 lbs nonrotating weight, assuming that the 100 lbs nonrotating weight = 0.1 second is itself reasonably accurate. 5 hundredths is indeed enough difference to turn a close loss into an equally close win.
I agree, you aren't going to feel that difference in the seat of your pants (anybody who can might consider a career change to professional test driver). It takes a side-to-side race or accurate timing to pick up.
Side note - the problem with just throwing numbers out for illustration without giving them at least a sanity check is that they're frequently incorrect by a factor of at least two. From there, other people reading it who know even less about the topic will take them and run with them like they were universal truths. I hope you'd question anybody who tried to claim that losing the rear seat cushion would lighten the car by 50 lbs (it's more like 12, from the "how much it weighs" thread elsewhere on this site). That's what I'm trying to keep from happening from here.
