I am in need of a built transmission and would like to keep the 5r55s. I am thinking of buying one from Larry's Transmission. I've talked to them and they seem like good people to deal with. I am looking for feedback on Larry's transmission's and other suggestions.

I run a Larry's Transmission 5R55S.

PI 3300 stall, best 60' 1.412---10.544 @ 126. I am at 577 rwhp and 519 rwtq. I street drive mine alot also. Its holding up fine so far. GT4Dino has one also, he is at 620rwhp. Both of us are running the hardened input shaft.

Honestly, however, I think that is about it for this trans. Anything in the 700rwhp range I would think about a 4R70W. Ken went through a few 5R55S trans at that power level.

What power do you plan on, (or already do) put down?

I currently run a PI 3000 stall. I made 534rwhp on 91 octane. My car has never made a pull on my 100 octane tune but JDM said it should be close to 580rwhp. The car is a daily driver in the summer. I've only put 1200 miles on the new stroker motor. I put the auto in about 500 miles before that. The tranny had 7000 miles on it at the time of install. I've made 4 1/4 mile passes and it already is slipping on the 3-4 shift.

+1 to Paul. Mine is also from Larry's, and I agree that I'm pushing the limit of the 5R55S. If (when?) it lets go, I'll be looking at a 4R70W, too.

I run a 4r70 rated at 1000hp, a Precision 3200 rpm stall, a Baumann controller and will soon be adding a two step. Mike had a builder semi-local to him assemble it. It's held up fine, though I'm no where near pushing the limit on it, and doubt I ever will be (my long term goals are low 10s).

Very happy with it, it sees road trips, and bumper-to-bumper DC traffic with no issues.

My trans has been rebuilt by Larry's Transmissions and very happy with it. I also have 3:73 gears, 3200 stall PI and making 447rwhp/425tq. If my trans ever takes a dump, I'll upgrade also. But for right now it's running great. Tony did a great job on the rebuild.:thumb:

I am running a Level10 built 5R55. Have zero complaints about it.

Couldn't tell ya how much power it makes. Haven't had it on a dyno since I had a manual transmission in it. If I had to guess I would say 450ish. But if I remember right Level10's web site rates them for 600. As for times, it's slow. Runs mid 11s in daily driver street trim.
