Wire in trunk lighting

Where could I wire in some additional lighting that become active in parallel with the trunk light? Think I should just splice it into the factory trunk light? I feel like I always have something blocking the factory light so I ordered a couple led strips.

I'd do just that; splice into the factory light wiring. I'd wire in a separate switch too so I could turn it on and off independent of the trunk light unless you know you always want it on.

I would also change the bulbs to LED so you're not putting too much current on a circuit not designed to handle it.

I am saying that the additional lights you wire in should be LEDs, since they pull smaller amounts of current and are thus less likely to put too much current through the smaller-gauge wires back there.

He did say he ordered LED strips. They shouldn't pull much current.
