So since i have such great luck, i was on my way to home depot to exchangevmy empty propane tank for a filled unit. I realized the tank dug into the dash piece above the glovebox, a nice footlong scratch. Im assuming ill need the piece replaced but are there any products i can use to hopefully repair this?

How deep is the scratch. If it's pretty deep. You will probably be better off replacing it. Sometimes you can take a heat gun and a crayon that is the same color as the dash and blend it in. But being in such a noticeable spot it might be easier to replace it. Im an audio Installer and you would be surprised at what a crayon could cover up.

If you used that "putty" than you would end up smoothing the whole thing otherwise you're not matching the texture of the plastic.

With that Vinyl / Leather kit, how does it match the color?

by using the color mix chart with small amounts.

I didn't say the plastic putty was a great idea, but it does work if you have a decent enough working surface.

Personally, i dont recommend it.

I'll def try the crayon idea this weekend, I'm sure there is some sort of shade closest to the charcoal color of the dash. If that looks like crap, I'll just end up replacing the part over the winter.

We keep a box of the 64 color crayons at the shop. There is almost a match for every color interior. It can't hurt to try it first and if it does not work great then just get a new one. The textures can be tricky. Just take your time and work slow.

problem with crayons are, they are water soluable. So once you hit your interior with an APC, good bye wax based cover up.

Any clue what the name of this interior piece is? It's the piece above the glovebox and below the airbag cover. Trying to get an idea on pricing on the fordparts.com site

LOL...........sorry, but that part is called........the dash!
$1,500+ was the last quote I got for one and that was at cost. Nothing I hate more than dash marks. So I feel your pain.

I scratched my glovebox with my laptop bag a week after picking up the car (yes, I was pissed at myself). It wasn't a deep scratch, couldn't really run your fingernail through it, and I didn't see any major dash material get removed. I successfully got the scratch out by using some leather cleaner first and then using leather conditioner (both Zaino). At first, this made the scratch look worse. Finally, I used some Poorboys plastic trim protectant which successfully covered up the scratch. I've since gone over my dash and removed all the protectant, and the scratch hasn't reappeared, so I'm guessing one of the products successfully blended the coloring.

I got some scratches in the same area and checked with my local ford parts guy and you have to get the whole dash for just that panel.....

contacted my local DR. VINYL franchise to see if it could be repaired and he asked for pictures but have not heard back yet

Try Tousley Ford to see if they'll sell the glove box cover separately (as long as it's a separate part number, they should be able to sell it)
