I really am leaning towards a build for my car that is 9.99 or better consistently..
I want this to be able to happen with the ability to drive the car on the street but have a car that meets the requirements of nhra 1/4 and 1/8th mile tracks and street a s197 when disired.. I want best of both worlds..

Simple answer, yes.

But how much comfort do you want? I havent taken mine down the strip since the new build, but Im pretty sure I will be quicker than 9.99 and I also drive mine almost everyday

It can. But it will not be a very street friendly IMO.

You need a 10 pt to run in the 9s.

I thought it was 6 point to 10.0 then 8 point to 9.0? Without getting it booted ..

I agree.

You can do it two ways:

1) Have a really good drag chassis that 60's hard, moderate HP, and have a car that drives like crap on the road but is less temperamental.

2) Have a street car chassis that drives nice, has big HP, and is temperamental as a driver because it makes 900 HP.

Option 2 is what I did. My car ran 9.90's at 141MPH and it wasn't a good race car or a good street car.

I did the 9 sec thing for a long time. The safety part is what really makes the car uncomfortable. Once you go that fast they really tech a car hard too, especially if it is a street car. You will need a 10 pt certified cage, engine diaper, tranny blanket (at a min), etc. Obviously the safety is for you and everyone, but it takes the fun out of it (or at least did for me).

SFI damper
SFI axles
SFI flywheel
Window net
Chassis cert
Scatter shield
Battery shut off switch
license if you go quicker than 9.99 or exceed 135MPH.

Even though I am licensed to drive anything under 125" wheelbase, I had to de-tune my pump gas tune to keep under 135MPH because my car didn't have a chassis cert or the safety equipment. Even though it was fun to race, I almost sold the car because it sucked on the street.

Anyway, 9.90 street car can be done fairly easy if you can live with it's personality. They are just like women, The hotter they are, the more personality they have.

I did the race car - street car thing while my car ran low 10s. It wasn't too bad as I drove 64 miles one way to work 2-3 times per week.

After the accident I decided to remake the car and make it a dedicated race car. In CA, you have to start with smog tests and visual inspections after the car is 6 years old. So since the car is a 2006, the tests would have started this year. And while it may have passed the smog part, it wouldn't have passed the visual inspection and I would have had to take it off the street anyway.

My opinion with all of the extra stuff you need to do to run 9s legally---if you are going to break into the 9s, do it in a big way. Run 9.50s or faster.

That makes perfect since to me.. if your not going to shot for 9.50 minimum why bother with a 9.90's and have all the expense in safety to 8.50 and only run barely faster than 10.0..
This looks like a nice 10.0 roll bar www.rpmrollbars.com

^^^You still need to do all of the safety stuff if you want to make more then 1 pass at the track.

What would i need to Sfi my 8.8? I allready have Moser hardend 31 spline shafts with detroit true-trac, T/A support girdle & welded tubes.. The only thing that i know that could be confusing is the c clip restriction but with the s197 being rear disc brake does the c clip axle rule apply? I do know that the cclip eleminator kits are designed for drum brakes because a drum would lose a wheel with out the eleminator. Disc will not.

I am curious about the disk brakes being the "axle retention device" deal as well. I have not heard a solid answer either way if track tech's consider it as such????

No you need C-Clip eliminators, or you can go with 9 inch rear end or you could go with the 9 inch tube ends. On the 9 inch, the axle flange is bolted to the axle tube in four places. Even if the axle breaks, its not going anywhere.
