how can you go about finding out what will PREVENT you from passing the wonderful smog tests here in CA, I know about the CARB cert on parts, what about engine mods, cams, heads, etc.?

The biggest things from what I remember when I lived there was The Smog numbers on every aftermaket part, no check engine light, you have cats.

I think that the DMV has a whole article on their website about it.

All aftermarket parts need a CARB #so you can pass the visual inspection. Not sure about the emissions because the car is now put on a dyno and emissions are tested under load. Obviously your cats and o2's need to be working.

If your car is new, you don't have to worry about your first smog check for 6 years. So my 05 will not have its first smog check until 2011.

+2... mine will be designated for track only by then. I don't want a daily driver with 80K to 100K miles on it. Time for a new one by then.

sort of knew the answer, this sucks, just sucks, track only means a trailer or tow dolley and no fun around town, it just sucks, maybe just a spare smog engine for fun:idea:

I guess that all depends on your perspective. I don't think it sucks at all. A trailered dedicated race car will be 10x more fun for me than a street car could ever be. And just think what it would be like if they hadn't changed the law in 2005, and you only had 2 years and not 6 years. :thumb:

Mine is modified (Saleen SC, etc.), but I believe it would pass emissions in CA (provided I had the CARB numbers on everything). It passes TX high emissions areas (OBDII) yearly tests just fine.

My cats are still in place and my rear O2s are on, and I am putting down over 400HP to the rear wheels. No CELs or any other issues with my tune. Your tuner should know how to do all of these things and still keep the car "legal," so you can drive it as a daily driver. BTW, stock exhaust can handle up to 600HP per Kenne Bell, and I am assuming that means with the cats in place.

Hope this helps.

dont have a truck or trailer or a place to keep it, if I did I would be thrilled to have a trailered race car, might even be able to come up with something to race that beast of yours. I am looking for a pre 75 to start over with, if I could just sell the anniversary car.................:bigbeer:

Your car is 3 years old and only has 20k on it now. You planning on putting 60k on in the next 3 years?

I have 45K miles on the car right now, not 20K... and that includes about 8 or 9 months where I didn't drive it all. Hell, I have almost 30K on it just since the KB went on. And I average about 1,500 miles per month as a daily driver. So yea, it will likely have 80K to 100K on it come mid 2011 (assuming there are no lengthy downtimes between now and then).

Ah... ok, I know where my momentary confusion came from. My bad.

They have been on the car for 2-1/2 years and 27K miles, and 650 passes.

I mistook mileage for your LCAs being on as total mileage.
