Well if your going to break it. I finally got to start driving mine again after deployment and some bastard screwing it up trying to steal it from my storage unit. Luckily I have insurance. I still have a few issues to track down with the suspension but the engine is running better then it ever has after my visit to Brenspeed and dyno tune.

LOL I need to work out the suspension issues. I was in bad need of an alignment and the clunking started after they did it as well as the looseness I'm feeling in the suspension so it isn't too hard to figure out.

Well i pulled the 2 rearward main caps today. One bearing looks shot, the other looks ok to me. Even with both main caps removed, I still cannot spin the motor

Should I put these caps back, and take out others, leave these out and continue taking the rest out? Any suggestions?

The heads can be pulled with the motor in the car. It's fairly easy just a little messy when all the trapped coolant comes out. I'd pull them and see what the top looks like. They will have to come off anyway.

Wish I knew. Looking for opinions on what to do/check next. Still trying to figure out a way to spin motor so I dont need to pull trans or drop kmember. Very difficult to do on your back

To continue going this route, you'd need to pull the drive shaft, unbolt the trans cross-member while supporting the trans with a jack. Disconnect any wiring not long enough to move a couple of inches from the engine and trans. Remove the hardware from the engine mounts and then, lift the engine off the mounts to gain clearance to the other cap bolts while lowering the trans slightly to maintain bellhousing clearance from the body of the car.

It sounds like a lot of work, but actually, it's pretty easy to do. Just go slow. Steering components may need to be removed for clearance. I've done this on a few cars and a couple of trucks, but not on an S197. Damn I wish I were close to you so I could give ya a hand.

Exactly. I dont think its worth it to go through ALL of that just to pull the last cap, Im sure I would have had far more evidence than I did if it were truly a main bearing causing the motor to not spin. I think we are looking at a bent rod at this point. I dont know what else could cause the motor to not spin if it isnt the bearings.

The easy answer is loss of the oil wedge. Finding out what caused that is the tricky part. Bearing clearance, oil viscosity for that clearance, defective bearing, too much heat causing reduced bearing clearance, excessive runout in the crank, a straightened crank that decided it wanted to go back to it's original shape. I'm sure there are other reasons too.

Ron, What happened to the local volunteers you had to help pull the motor?

What if the oil pump gears shattered and jammed up the pump?

Misspelling brought to you by tapatalk

Good tohught, but I had oil pressure when the car shut off. I also have the TSS gears, and the oil pump gears wouldnt leave thin coppery and other metals in the pan. Ive had an oil pump gear break, and they jsut break into large pieces

Nothing panned out yet. I was hoping removing the caps would mean i could disconnect the block from the trans, but with that not happening i don't see how its going to be pulled without a lift, and disconnecting the k-memebr from the car and lowering everything down, while lifting the car over it all.

Ron unless you have a low ceiling in your garage it's not that hard to pull the engine and trans as one unit, with the car on jack stands. I pulled my first motor this way, you just need the normal ceiling height to get the picker high enough.
