i use the stock 5r55s shifter but i want to do a B&M shifter which Mike @powerhouse said this owuld need to be custom done.

The problem i have is the shifts dont line up with the indicator like half way on N you hear a click thats D , if you stick it in D its 2-2 and so forth. I know where the shifter is at but when i have to let someone else move the car or valvet or dyno i have to break it down barney style kinda frustrating. But then again its not often i let someone else drive my car.

what im looking for is pics of the console on how you did it or the shop did it

Also i run a Electric valve body .

Not a B&M but you get the idea.

I have the same issue with my stock shifter. POS. Also looking to use some other shifter in place of the stocker, or figuring out where the sloppyness is in it (not under the car, I checked).
It'll shift into the gears, but like you, the driver has to know which gear it's really in.

I'd like to see what other shifters can work as well. Have to make sure its PRND21 of course. Already have a boot from a manual to use.

This will be a 'mod' for me as I'm just getting the 4r70 install wrapped up and car's not yet back on the road. So watching with interest :)

I've got a B&M shifter but don't need/want a position indicator so how I'm set up won't help you.

checked those out and actually replied a year ago on NATURAL1 write up. but both links only help me out with you need to punch the center hole out and lay a piece of sheetmetal down. grrr i can remove the stock shifter and enlarge the hole and have the sheet metal part done myself but what else would be required when swapping the shifter over from stock 5r55s shifter to a 4r70w tranny already inplace ... like what is the red lever ....

I have a Hurst Pistol grip on my freddy brown 4r70w setup using a modified 6 speed boot it looks factory fit freddy brown has a kit that makes the install a bolt in easy do it your self project he designed it specificly for s197 4r70w swaps if your hell bent on using the stock shifter i am sure it can be done.
If your running a manual valve body i personally wouldent want tha stock shifter i luv my hurst with me having manual valve body & transbake with 2 step and lock up.

yeah i saw that but only other info was this

(1) (Various) Aftermarket 3-speed shifter (w/FWD Shift pattern)
(1) 4R3Z*7277*ABD Gaiter (leather shift boot for use with Aftermarket Shifter)

The original shifter can also be reused if it is modified for the neutral lockout function. An aftermarket shifter with a 3-speed forward shift pattern can also be used. Some are equipped with a momentary push-button that is generally used for the optional trans-brake feature. The aftermarket shifter can be installed with the rubber boot, and leather gaiter boot.
