I know they are, Don. I have just never taken a liking to them. Then again....I've never been known for conventional thinking either. :laughlots:

The whole wheel thing for our cars is BS...:321:

To get the wheels I would like to have (any brand) and to have a bead lock, the ONLY way to do it is to shorten the rear axle by an inch on each side to allow the smaller backspacing to fit a 'real' wheel on the car.

That's what Vinny Barber did but shit - it's like 4-5K to do it if I do it with a 9" and still a chunk to do it to my 8.8 and not really worth it.

Sucks that we are so limited. I just put my goodyears back on the bogarts with rim screws and I'm going to play with spring, shock and pressure settings till the fucking thing works...:beerdrink:

Did he tell you what the mesurement was inside the rim? On my car "05gt" I just mesured and it is 6 5/8 from the center of the axle to the outside of the caliper. That woud be a diamiter of 13 1/4 tight with no clearance so I would think 13 3/4 would be a min. and that would only give you 1/4 at the caliper.

That looks like a standard Weld Draglite... is it?

The issue I found with the standard Draglites is the design of the center section. Look closely at the pic you posted. You can see how the center section tapers from the hub back towards the rim. This taper causes interference with the caliper on the backside. The easy solution is a spacer, but then the spacer makes the wheel stick out farther and reduces the lug nut thread engagement on the studs. NHRA rules call for a minimum of 1/2" thread engagement beyond the wheel and lug nut washer (based on our 1/2-20 studs).

On the old Weld "XP" design, it was not tapered in the center... it was straight, which cleared the caliper. My previous 15x9, 5.5"bs XP fit perfect without a spacer. But, thread engagement was still marginal, because of the thick center hub material on the wheel... even with 3" studs.

Here are a couple pics of the XPs.

You can see it barely clears the caliper on the inside diameter... but it does clear.

The center section does not taper back, and it is flat on the backside.

I Know all we want is a wheel that will fit our cars and not cost a shit load. I just hope they will have something out before this coming spring.

I already have the Bogarts for the track, but I'd love to have some 15s I could run on the street. But, from what I've seen of the Greg Welds... it won't be those. I don't much like the way they look.

p.s. SD... keep badgering those boys at Cragar to make us a set of 15" S/S style wheels!! :thumb:

it may be the standard one, I just called and asked for a 15x10 with 7.5" of backspacing and he referred me to those wheels. I got him to email me an actual picture of them to check out and that is what he sent. It ma not fit but I was trying to get the ball rolling on something since I like the way those wheels look and I have had them on both my Camaro's 1979 and 1997.

Who makes a smaller brake for the back of these cars? I would invest in that or get the 9" narrowed. I will check into this somemore.
